Leonardo Rojnić Finalist in Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra's Young Soloists Competition – Finlandby Christine Johnstone |
Video: Concerto for Accordion and Strings composed by I. Shamo. Mvt I. Preludio & IV. Toccata performed by Leonardo Rojnic. Accordionist Leonardo Rojnic (Helsinki – picture left) is one of eight finalists in the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra's Young Soloists competition. Leonardo is a first year bachelor student at the Sibelius Academy tutored by Veli Kujala. All eight finalists will perform at the Musiikkitalo Concert Hall in Helsinki with the Radion Sinfoniaorkesteri (Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra - FRSO) conducted by József Hárs on April 29th, 2022 at 7pm. The concert will be broadcast live on Yle Areena and Yle Radio 1 and delayed by Yle Teema. Leonardo’s program will feature works by Polish composer and accordionist Mikolaj Majkusiak: Concerto "Classico", parts 2 Flight drammatico and 1 Allegro ben ritmico. |

Dr. Helmi Harrington welcomes all, “On behalf of the Board of Directors to A World of Accordions Museum." A World of Accordions World Accordion Day (WAD) and Palmer Festivals will take place from May 6-8, 2022 in Superior, Wisconsin at The Harrington ARTS Center, home of the A World Of Accordions Museum (AWAM). On Friday May 6, 2022 World Accordion Day will be celebrated by a variety of lectures, demonstrations, and concerts. The theme for this day will be Cyril Demian Accordion Patent Celebration. Saturday May 7, 2022 will be the annual Palmer Festival with more exciting lectures and fun accordion concerts and demonstrations. The third day, Sunday May 8, 2022 will include several accordion based polka morning services, and tours of the A World of Accordions Museum in the afternoon. The “Gaetano Braga” Conservatory of Music presents the first edition of the Accordion Spring Festival next month. Organised by Art Director, Massimiliano Pitocco and Renzo Ruggieri, the event will be held in Teramo, Italy, from May 12th to 14th, 2022. The Festival, which will include conferences, seminars, master classes with Massimiliano Pitocco, Renzo Ruggieri and Vladimir Mandic. There will be concerts for accordion and the festival aims to promote and enhance "The Accordion" thanks to the participation of concert performers and teachers. The 2022 International Music Award Làszlò Spezzaferri will be held online with a streamed Award Ceremony on June 15th, 2022. Dedicated to the cellist, conductor and composer Làszlò Spezzaferri, first Director of the Conservatory of Verona, the competition is open to soloists, chamber music groups and ensembles in a variety of age categories. The Jury of the IV International Prize "Làszlò Spezzaferri" will be made up of renowned teachers and concert performers in a variety of instruments including accordion. Canterbury Accordion Association Celebrates 60th Anniversary – New Zealandby Jeanette Perry |
The Canterbury Accordion Association will celebrate its 60th anniversary on July 23rd, 2022 with a morning Meet & Greet, a photo shoot, and an afternoon celebration concert at the Salvation Army Corps in Christchurch. This will be followed by an evening dinner and cake cutting ceremony at St Paul’s Anglican Church Hall in Papanui, Christchurch. The 10th Folkarria Eco Festi-bal will be held in Loeches, Madrid, Spain from April 29th to May 1st, 2022. The festival includes a variety of concerts, music and dance workshops, jam sessions, exhibitions, shows, children’s activities and a Folkarria music and dance contest for debutant bands including Ulua (Spain – picture left) who will take part with two other groups. Powell River’s First Annual Accordion Fest directed by Walter Martella and Karina Inkster takes place from May 6th to 7th, 2022 and is a project of the Powell River Academy of Music. The festival will feature two days of diverse events with a concert performance by an accomplished and outstanding accordionist, workshops for beginners and advanced players alike, and a wide range of musical genres for audiences to enjoy. Guest performer, Jelena Milojevic (picture right), is a highly regarded performer. She studied both in Croatia and Serbia and ultimately received her Master’s Degree in Accordion Performance and Education, in the Music Academy (FILUM) in Kragujevac, Serbia, where she is now completing her Doctoral Degree in accordion performance. Marie-Andrée Joerger (France) will give a Masterclass at the Scuola Civica di Musica "Paolo Soprani" in Castelfidardo, Italy on April 9th and 10th, 2022. Marie-Andrée Joerger is a professor of accordion at the Conservatoire et à l'Académie supérieure de musique de Strasbourg - Haute école des arts du Rhin and also teaches pedagogy and didactics at the Haute école des arts de Berne in Switzerland. Trio Hiltula/Sakimoto/Aoki which includes Ville Hiltula (bandoneon), Ranna Sakimoto (cella) and Naoko Aoki (piano) will perform a Tango Live concert at the Classic Salon Amadeus in Kobe, Japan on April 16th, 2022, at 2pm sponsored by Amadeus. Bookings are now open for the SqueezEast Concertina Band Day, which will be held at the Stamford Arts Centre in Stamford, England on June 12th, 2022 from 10am to 5pm. The day will be led by Paul Barrett, who will provide all the musical arrangements. Organisers welcome players of English, Anglo and Duet concertina systems. The music will be arranged in parts to accomodate players of Treble, Baritone and Bass concertinas. Players are welcome to bring more than one concertina to the event. Whilst players of all skill levels are welcome, some music reading will be essential. Most music will be arranged in the keys of C, G and D, but F and Bb may also be used for some pieces. The Connecticut Accordion Association (CAA) and The Mattatuck Museum present “The Accordion Lives On! The Mattatuck Celebrates Waterbury's Musical History” with a CAA orchestra concert on the beautiful outdoor rooftop veranda at the newly renovated Mattatuck Museum. The event will take place on June 12th, 2022 from 2pm to 4pm in Waterbury, Connecticut. If the weather doesn't allow an outdoor performance, the concert will be indoors at the Mattatuck's Performing Arts Center. Under the direction of Peter Peluso, the Connecticut Accordion Orchestra will perform a variety of pieces from classical to jazz and light rock, ethnic to show tunes, and some patriotic pieces added for good measure.
