RULES 2019 (May 18th updated)

1. The City Council Administration of Castelfidardo (Italy) announces the International “Città di Castelfidardo” Accordion Prize dedicated to soloists, ensembles and composers, from 18 th – 22 th September 2018.
2. Soloists enrollment € 30.00, ensemble enrollment € 50.00. The registration for the “Classical Composition” category is free.
3. Competitors may register for several categories but not repeat the same program in different categories. In the “Jazz” and “Gervasio Marcosignori Award” categories it is allowed to repeat pieces with different arrangements.
4. Deadline for registration: august 31 th (30th april for category “Classical Composition”) using the special online form at pifcastelfidardo.it.
5. Competitors will be contacted by e-mail about their registration.

 

Section “CLASSICAL ACCORDION”

CLASSICAL CATEGORY “PREMIO”

SOLOISTS NO AGE LIMIT – 3 ROUNDS

First round
Entrants must perform a programme of their choice lasting a maximum of 20 minutes, including one composition for harpsichord or organ by J.S.Bach. The programmes should demonstrate as much as possible the diversity of the original repertoire for accordion, drawing from the repertoire of the various national “schools”; at the same time, they should include pieces that are different in character, era, taste and style. A maximum of 8 entrants will be chosen to go into the second round.

Second round
Entrants who make it to this round must perform a programme of their choice (different from their first round programme) lasting a maximum of 25 minutes. A maximum of 3 entrants will be chosen to go into the third round.

This category is open to any group, comprised of at least one accordion that should have the main role in the ensemble or a groups composed completely of accordions.Entrants must present a programme of their choice with a maximum length of 20 minutes.

CLASSICAL CATEGORY “COMPOSITION”

NO AGE LIMIT

In order to encourage the creation of new repertoires, composers are invited to write a work for ACCORDION & ORCHESTRA, freely inspired by the theme of the festival: “ONCE UPON A TIME… the accordion and the world of fairy tales”.

Instrumentation:

Violins I, Violins II, Violas, Cellos, Double Basses,
Flute I-II, Oboe I-II, Bb Clarinet I-II, Bassons I-II,
F Horn I-II, Bb Trumpet I-II, Trombone,
Percussion 1 (2 Timpani, C Glockenspiel),
Percussion 2 (Suspended Cymbal, Snare, Tambourine).

• The composition must never have been performed in public, under penalty of exclusion from the competition.
• The composer must remember that the winning piece will be performed by the candidates admitted to the THIRD ROUND of the PREMIO classical category (2019).
• The total duration between minimum 5 and maximum 8 minutes.
• The composition must contain at least one “soloist” part for accordion.
• The soloists will perform “only one rehersal” with the orchestra before the final performance.
• Free registration.

Composers are invited to send their composition by form on www.pifcastelfidardo.it no later than 30th April 2019in PDF format (full score WITHOUT NAME OF THE AUTHOR and full score WITH NAME, the single parts will be requested later) and an MP3 audio demo performed live or by music software. If the work had more than one author, the registration must be made by the main composer, indicating in the score all the names.

First round
Entrants must present a programme of their choice with a maximum length of 15 minutes (pieces from the following repertoires are accepted: varieté, jazz, blues, pop, South American, in published or unpublished arrangements).

Second round
It will take place in the evening gala concert and only 3 entrants will be admitted to the second round with a repertoire different from the first round with a maximum of 7 minutes.

CATEGORY WORLD “ENSEMBLE”

ENSEMBLE WITH NO AGE LIMIT – 2 ROUNDS
(FROM A MINIMUM OF 2 TO A MAXIMUM OF 12 PARTECIPANTS)
This category is open to any group comprised of at least one accordion or one diatonic accordion (of any model), a garmoshka, a bandoneon or digital accordion, that should have the main role in the ensemble. Groups may contain more than one free reed instrument or with only free reed instruments (like the ones mentioned above). One piece of YOUR HOMELAND must be included in at least first or in the second round. The organization suggests wearing traditional clothes from their homeland.

First round
Entrants must present a programme of their choice with a maximum length of 16 minutes, including compositions, arrangements and creative reworkings of pieces from the world music, ethno jazz, ethnic, folk and traditional repertoires.

Second round
It will take place in the evening gala concert and only 3 entrants will be admittted to the second round, who will perform with a different program from the first round and not exceeding 7 minutes.

ONE PIECE OF OWN HOMELAND must be included.

Section “JAZZ ACCORDION”

CATEGORIA “JAZZ”

SOLOISTS OR ENSEMBLE WITH NO AGE LIMIT – 2 ROUNDS
(FROM A MINIMUM OF 1 TO A MAXIMUM OF 12 PARTECIPANTS)
Admission to this category is open to SOLOISTS or GROUPS in which the accordion has the main role. Groups can be composed completely of accordions or of an accordion and other instruments. The use of acoustic, electronic and diatonic accordions is allowed. The jury – made up of experts, critics and jazz musicians – will evaluate personal style, improvisational and instrumental skill and the artistic project as a whole.

First round
Entrants must perform a programme of their choice with a maximum length of 16 minutes including at least one “standard” from the Real Book.

Second round
It will take place in the evening gala concert and only 3 entrantswill be admittted to the second round, who will perform with a different program from the first round and not exceeding 7 minutes.

It will be made available to the first 5 partecipants who request it, a rhythm section of professionals (drums, bass, guitar). On the same day of the audition, the single contestant will have 45 minutes to rehersal with the band; for this he must evaluate arrangements and scores to facilitate “sight-reading”.

Section “ELECTRONIC ACCORDION”

CATEGORY “GERVASIO MARCOSIGNORI AWARD”

SOLOISTS  NO AGE LIMIT

The category is open to soloists with VIRTUAL (without acoustic voices) accordions, HYBRID (acoustic accordions with MIDI system) or ELECTRIC (acoustic accordions connected to digital multi-effects, looper, etc.). External modules or computers are permitted as well as added sequences. The jury will vote keeping in mind the performance and creativity of the proposal.

Candidates must present a program of free choice (all musical genres are allowed) not exceeding 12 minutes.Competitors will have maximum 5 minutes to prepare their equipment and are invited to simplify their set-ups. The organization will provide an audio amplification with 2 inputs (1 stereo) and a single monitor.

REGULATIONS FOR THE VARIOUS CATEGORIES

1. Entrants can participate with any kind of accordion, of any brand.
2. Entrants in the CLASSICAL MUSIC section are required to present 3 printed copies of the pieces in their programme to the commission, at the beginning of the round. The jury reserves the right to penalise entrants who do not present these copies. At the end of the performance the scores will be returned to the entrant.
3. Entrants in the NON CLASSICAL categories, do not have the obligation to submit to the commission a copy of the repertoire they will perform.
4. The President of the jury has the right to end the performance of the contestant if the time limit of the category will exceed by ONE MINUTE the time required for each category. The pauses between one song and another will not be counted.
5. Each jury member will give a score from 10 to 20. The highest and the lowest scores will be discarded. The scores given by every member of the jury will be made public. For the PREMIO category, and other categories with more rounds, a participant’s final score will be calculated by calculating the SUM of the score obtained in each of the rounds.
6. The order of performance of entrants will be drawn for every single category (the subsequent rounds will have the order drawn inverted) and communicated to the candidates at least one day before the beginning of the auditions. The timetable for each round will be available in the Secretariat’s Office the day before the beginning of the following day’s rounds.
7. Each entrant must confirm their presence (by e-mail or phone) the day before the competition, or they may be eliminated.
8. All performances will be open to the public.
9. The jury reserves the right to not award a prize if the entrants do not reach a high enough artistic level or do not follow the artistic requirements.
10. The decision of the jury is not open to appeal.
11. All competitors will receive the “participation diploma”, to be collected in the secretary after the results have been released.
12. Radio, tv or streaming use of the competition rounds or final concert will not involve any compensation to the entrants, nor can they request the use of said media products.
13. Registration for the competition involves the acceptance of these regulations. The Court of Ancona is responsible for dealing with any legal issues.
14. The first three prize winners in each category must be present during the award ceremony (or risk not receiving their prize). All monetary prizes will be paid via cheque, bank wire transfer or electronic payment.
15. The first prize winners in all categories must perform during their award ceremony and must also perform pieces from their programmes agreed with the jury.
16. Travel and accommodation costs are at the expense of each entrant. The organization offers 100 soloists competitors the opportunity to take advantage of free accommodation (one night for italian competitors, two nights for foreigners and additional nights for those who will pass the second / third round – no singles rooms) arranged in structures associated with the the organisation of the PIF. Participants can extend their stay at their own cost. As soon as the registration is made, the candidate IS OBLIGED TO BOOK THE FREE STAY through the Pro Loco Tourist Association (tel +39 071 7822987 / +39 071 7823162 / info@prolococastelfidardo.it), which will remain available for any information relating to hotel hospitality.
17. The organisation of the competition will not be responsible for any kind of event that may occur during the festival.
18. The organisation reserves the right to modify or add things to the regulations at its sole discretion.
19. The organisation reserves the right to bring forward the timing of the rounds in the case of participant numbers making that necessary. The organisation will make sure to inform the affected entrants of these changes.
20. Personal data of the entrants, including audio and video taken during the competition, are registered and used only for competition purposes (Art. 13, c. 1, D. L.vo 30th June 2003, n. 196 “Codice in materia di dati personali”).
