| Guinness World Record Achieved at the 2023 Xin Jiang Ta Cheng Accordion Art Festival. Video above of the 2525 live accordionists, plus 2003 verified online to total 4528 accordion players. Full report of this amazing huge event in Ta Cheng, China is online at: 2023Tacheng There are probably more accordionists per head of population in Tacheng than any other city in the world. Tacheng is in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region of China, and to reach Tacheng, takes over 5 hours flying time from Hong Kong, Shanghai or Beijing and is close to the border of Kazakhstan. To put this in perspective, London to Moscow is 3 hours 40 minutes. The China Daily Times (English edition) wrote: "Dubbed as the "city of accordion", Tacheng has a rich history and legacy of accordion. The accordion is akin to a symbol of the city, and out of every 10 people there will be two or three who can play the accordion. |

  The closing date for entries is September 3rd, for the PIF 2023, 48th International Accordion Prize "Città di Castelfidardo" held in Castelfidardo from September 13th to 17th, 2023.Artistic Director of the festival and competitions is Antonio Spaccarotella (picture above right). The competition, which "attracts hundreds of bellows instrument talents from all over the world… will feature a program of large-scale events, including unpublished projects, first performances, concerts rich in artistic influences entrusted to big names and rising stars of the international music scene, moments of encounter between music and original theatre, teaching and research projects and many other novelties".  The XXX “Arrasate Hiria” International Accordion Competition will take place in Arrasate-Mondragón, Basque Country, Spain, between December 8th and 10th, 2023. The competition is open to soloists of any age and nationality and is organised by “HAUSPOZ” Euskal Herriko Akordeoi Elkartea, the Town Hall of Arrasate and The County Council of Gipuzkoa. The winner of the 2023 competition will be invited by the organizers to give a series of concerts at the XXXI “Arrasate Hiria” International Accordion Competition in 2024.  Video: World Premiere in Chicago.A most successful World Premiere of "Meditato" composed by Gorka Hermosa was performed by Grayson Masefield at the 2023 Accordionists & Teachers Guild, International (ATG) Festival in Chicago. Photo report at: http://www.accordions.com/atg/2023report.php “Meditato” (2023) is a Meditation on the irrationality of human barbarism that was commissioned by the ATG thanks to the ATG President Mary Ann Covone and Harley Jones. When approached for the commission, Gorka Hermosa proposed a melodic piece as most commissioned works he receives are for virtuoso pieces. He thought that it was deeper to go in the opposite direction with a melodic work. Gorka writes: "Meditato tries to express the desolation in my soul in front of barbaric acts such as I previously showed in Gernika (1994), and in Fragilissimo (2000) showing that all depends on the point of view and our inability to understand the point of view of the people who thinks to the contrary of us. To compose “Meditato”, I listened to the main melodical pieces written for accordion (Romance of Angelis, Kalina Krasnaya of Semionov...), music by Albeniz, Satie, Debussy... and finally I found the inspiration listening to Rachmaninoff (for the introduction of the piece) and Villalobos (Bachiana Brasileira nº5) for the rest of the piece, departing from the improvisation on its harmony, to write what I finally composed in this piece.” Grayson Masefield performed the Chinese premiere of "Meditato" at a concert in Chengdu last week with over 9,000 additional audience viewing by the internet. "Meditato" received enthusiastic audience response in both the USA and China where the work was also performed in concert in Tacheng last week. | The Bavarian State Youth Accordion Orchestra (Landesjugend-Akkordeonorchester Bayern - LJAO) will begin their concert tour of the UK, Belgium and Germany on August 31st through to September 10th, 2023. This Orchestra is one of the German selection accordion orchestras of the “Deutsche Harmonika-Verband” (DHV) that offers young people from Bavaria the opportunity to deal with new accordion literature and sophisticated arrangements. The conductor changes every year, so that the young musicians can gain experience with different musical interpretations. The 2023 Musical Director and Conductor is Stefan Hippe. The tour will begin in London, England with a community concert entitled "Bellows Across Borders" with the London Accordion Orchestra on September 3rd, 2023 at St Gabriel's Church in Pimlico. Further concerts in their tour schedule: • September 6th: Mons (Belgium) - Auditorium Halbreich - Conservatoire Royal du Mons • September 8th: Oelde (Germany) - St. Joseph's Church • September 9th: Cologne (Germany) - Trinity Church Their programme includes music by Piazzolla, Márquez, Elgar, Händel and Tchaikovsky, as well as original works for accordion orchestra. | NOVAM (Nederlandse Organisatie Voor Accordeon en Mondharmonica) & ArtEZ will hold a series of Improvisation Workshops at the ArtEZ Conservatory in Arnhem, Gelderland, Netherlands with tutor Rik Cornelissen. The first in the series will be held on October 7th, 2023 from 11am to 3pm. The workshops will cover “topics such as improvisation, memorization, hearing, rhythm, groove, chords, accompaniment, solos, articulation, ... for different musical styles such as tango, Latin and jazz." | Melrose Quartet will hold their “Make the World Anew” Album Launch event with a live concert at St Andrew’s Church, Psalter Lane, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England on September 23rd, 2023. The concert “will also be streamed live to the world on Live to Your Living Room, making this an incredibly exciting global event.” The album will feature “powerful, uplifting songs alongside beautiful instrumentals showcasing the band’s deep roots in traditional dance music.” The quartet members: Richard Arrowsmith (melodeons & vocals), Jess Arrowsmith (violin & vocals), James Fagan (vocals, bouzouki & guitar) and Nancy Kerr (vocals & violin). |

 The Scandalli Accordion Factory is the sponsor of the 2023 Video Archive and Education Project, 2023 Coupe Mondiale, 5-9 September, Bosnia and Herzegovina.The "Video Archive Education Project" is a project initiated in 2010 by the Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) with assistance from sponsors and Accordions Worldwide. Videos should be online approximately 90 minutes after the live performance or live competition and viewers will have free downloads of Coupe Mondiale competitions playing a vast range of different types and styles of music. The project includes a video of all the Coupe Mondiale categories and their contestants to be kept in the CIA archives in Finland, which over the coming years will become a wealth of historical recordings, including the premiere of many original accordion works and the emergence of upcoming artists at the Coupe Mondiale.
