 With the final edition of Intermusik in July 2010 the Intermusik editorial team had completed 18 years in existence. 18 Years Editorial.On July 1, 1992, the Intermusik editorial staff was officially brought into being although the newspaper’s founder and music publisher, Ulrich Schmülling, had already started preparing for this project some months before. Left is a picture of the first edition of Intermusik in October 1992. Around 3,400 pages of text and pictures have recorded the history of the accordion and harmonica world in the time spanning that and this last edition. In book format there would have been around 13,700 pages. With this background of success, Intermusik's founder and publisher, Prof. Ulrich Schmülling, decided to take a decisive step: ceasing Intermusik as a newspaper publication with the July 2010 issue. This was a great surprise for the entire accordion world, as well as for subscribers and advertisers. “Nevertheless, in my opinion the time had come for Intermusik to take its leave from this form of publication. As is well known, a person should stop when everything is going well and not when it is necessary. I have not made the decision due to an emergency or any other necessity, but simply following my free conviction and inner feelings, just as I once founded the publication,” Ulrich Schmülling declared. Over the years, Ulrich Schmülling has received considerable awards and public recognition for his many years of contribution to the harmonica and the accordion including in 2005 receiving the prestigious Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) Merit Award. Ulrich Schmülling will be increasing his involvement with his high quality publishing company Karthause Schmülling Musik und Medien Deutschland. The final 18 Years Editorial includes substantial historical information about the Intermusik newspaper and and also a very interesting historical article about bayan development in Western Europe.
