The 2022 XXXIV International Festival "Bayan and Bayanists" is underway at the Concert Hall of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music (RAM) in Moscow, Russia, from December 14th to 18th, 2022. Concerts: Video 1: December 14th: Performers at the Opening Concert include the State Academic Russian Folk Ensemble "Russia", Directed by Dmitry Dmitrienko, Professor Alexander Kapitan (accordion), Stanislav Gerasimov (accordion) plus a group performance by Professor Alexander Tsygankov (domra), Vladislav Afanasiev (domra), Anastasia Zakharova (domra), Olzhas Nurlanov (accordion), Rafael Sapukov (accordion) and Mikhail Chernov (accordion). 38th VAMÖ Accordion Competition 2023 - Austriaby AWW |
The 38th VAMÖ Accordion Competition 2023 will be held at Yamaha Music Europe Gmbh in Vienna, Austria on February 25th and 26th, 2023. Heinz Ebenstein, MBA Head of Accordion Department has announced that Categories 1A, 1B and 1C will be held on February 25th, 2023, and Categories 2 and 3 will be held on February 26th, 2023. Marco Lo Russo will performs at the Artemisio Theater in Velletri, Rome, Italy on December 30th, 2022 at 9pm. The event is held as part of the Magico Natale Viliterno 2022 (Magical Christmas Viliterno 2022) organised by Proloco Velitrae and the Municipality of Velletri. Lo Russo’s program will include a “Made in Italy musical journey that combines jazz, classical music and world music”. Admission is free. |

“Skerryvore” (picture above) and “Edward the Second” (picture left) will perform at the 2023 Ibiza Folk Music Festival, held at The Seaview Country Club in Port des Torrent, Ibiza, Balearic Islands, Spain from April 25th to May 1st, 2023. The resort includes an outdoor venue overlooking the sea, which provides spectacular views while visitors listen to musicians perform. The 2023 Toppershoedje Orchestra Weekend will take place at the Bungalow Park Toppershoedje (picture below) in Ouddorp, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands from February 3rd to 5th, 2023. The event is organised by NOVAM (Nederlandse Organisatie Voor Accordeon en Mondharmonica). Accordionists Ronald van Overbruggen and Niek van Uden will conduct the orchestra. The National Accordion Association (NAA) Convention will be held from March 15th to 19th, 2023 at the Hilton Hotel, Richardson, Texas, USA The convention will feature 2023 versions of American Music that is marketable as today’s music. The music is a combination of contemporary American music originated by USA immigrants who brought their musical values and traditions as they joined the great American melting pot. The music is a blend of musical styles that include, but are not limited to, popular tunes, folk music, country and western (C&W), ballads that tell a story, rock and roll, polkas and waltzes, European music, Gospel, and jazz. In addition the 2023 event will include Higher Learning Opportunities such as creative thinking and applying to music, ear-training, articulation and bellows control, practice techniques, sight reading, musical theory, performing techniques, and performance opportunities. The Lighthouse Function Center in Dargaville, New Zealand was filled to capacity for the 17th Afternoon of Music with Kevin Friedrich and Friends, a Variety Show featuring accordionists and entertainers from different parts of New Zealand. Report at: 2022Dargaville Accordionist Kevin Friedrich hosted his popular fundraising concert called ‘Christmas Joy’, on December 4th, 2022 at 1:00 PM. Presented by The Dargaville Museum, the 17th Afternoon of Music with Kevin Friedrich and Friends featured a variety of traditional and lighter themed Holiday music. Guest artists included the North Shore Accordion Orchestra, Anna Collins, Paul Jonson, Lionel Reekie, Jone Yelcich, Take 6, Linda Emmett Litt, Thomas Koloi, Rivertown Singers, Roslyn Gilmour, Alanah Jones, Maurice Jones, The Kaipara Ensemble, Sonja Whitehouse, Ian Bartlett and Jean Reid. The popular annual Holiday Show Concerts, which have been added to the annual regular season concerts, are a wonderful event for all ages, bringing the community and guests together for an afternoon of music and friendship. All proceeds are donated to the Dargaville Museum in support of their efforts to showcase the history of the community for future generations to enjoy. The Dargaville Museum hosts the only public accordion exhibition in the Southern Hemisphere “Accordion Gems, A Master Collection of Accordions Through Time”.
