| The National Accordion Association (NAA) Convention will be held from March 15th to 19th, 2023 at the Hilton Hotel, Richardson, Texas, USA The convention will feature 2023 versions of American Music that is marketable as today’s music. The music is a combination of contemporary American music originated by USA immigrants who brought their musical values and traditions as they joined the great American melting pot. The music is a blend of musical styles that include, but are not limited to, popular tunes, folk music, country and western (C&W), ballads that tell a story, rock and roll, polkas and waltzes, European music, Gospel, and jazz. In addition the 2023 event will include Higher Learning Opportunities such as creative thinking and applying to music, ear-training, articulation and bellows control, practice techniques, sight reading, musical theory, performing techniques, and performance opportunities. | The 51st Kleine Tag der Harmonika Competition will be held in Klingenthal, Germany on March 4th and 5th, 2023. The competitions are restricted to young accordionists 19 years and under from all over the Federal Republic of Germany and from the Czech Republic. They are invited to meet and demonstrate their skills in fair competition and to gain competition experience. Competition classes include age categories for soloists, duos and chamber music ensembles for up to five musicians including at least one accordion. Registrations close on January 15th, 2023. | Argentine bandoneonist, Rodolfo Mederos will give a live tango concert and lecture at the Argentine Ambassador's Residence in London, England, UK on December 11th, 2022 at 4pm. This is an excellent opportunity to enjoy one of the best known musicians of the Argentine tango scene. The event is organised by the Embassy of Argentina in the UK in collaboration with the Anglo-Argentine Society and the London Tango Marathon team. The lecture will be in Spanish with musical interpretations, followed by a Christmas Milonga. Funds raised will go to the Programa Puentes, Delfina Foundation. |

 The 2nd annual World Concertina Day will be held on February 6th, 2023, the anniversary of the birth of Sir Charles Wheatstone, sponsored by the International Concertina Association (ICA).The ICA encourages everyone with an interest in the concertina to participate on February 6th, 2023 or on the weekend of February 4th and 5th by organizing or taking part in an event in your local area or online.  The Lighthouse Function Center in Dargaville, New Zealand was filled to capacity for the 17th Afternoon of Music with Kevin Friedrich and Friends, a Variety Show featuring accordionists and entertainers from different parts of New Zealand. Report at: 2022DargavilleAccordionist Kevin Friedrich hosted his popular fundraising concert called ‘Christmas Joy’, on December 4th, 2022 at 1:00 PM. Presented by The Dargaville Museum, the 17th Afternoon of Music with Kevin Friedrich and Friends featured a variety of traditional and lighter themed Holiday music. Guest artists included the North Shore Accordion Orchestra, Anna Collins, Paul Jonson, Lionel Reekie, Jone Yelcich, Take 6, Linda Emmett Litt, Thomas Koloi, Rivertown Singers, Roslyn Gilmour, Alanah Jones, Maurice Jones, The Kaipara Ensemble, Sonja Whitehouse, Ian Bartlett and Jean Reid. The popular annual Holiday Show Concerts, which have been added to the annual regular season concerts, are a wonderful event for all ages, bringing the community and guests together for an afternoon of music and friendship. All proceeds are donated to the Dargaville Museum in support of their efforts to showcase the history of the community for future generations to enjoy. The Dargaville Museum hosts the only public accordion exhibition in the Southern Hemisphere “Accordion Gems, A Master Collection of Accordions Through Time”. Established and curated by Kevin Friedrich, the 140 instruments on display showcase the fascinating evolution of the instrument over its nearly 200 years. Report at: 2022Dargaville |

He will be invited by the organizers to give a series of concerts at the 2023 XXX “Arrasate Hiria” International Accordion Competition. The event was held from December 2nd to 4th, 2022, organised by “Hauspoz” Euskal Herriko Akordeoi Elkartea, the Town Hall of Arrasate and the County Council of Gipuzkoa. The international jury, which included Veli Kujala (Finland), Geir Draugsvoll (Norway), Ander Telleria (Spain), Mie Miki (Japan/Germany), announced only twenty hundredths separated the first and third placings. | Black Pencil, which includes accordionist Marko Kassl will perform a concert at the Kunstlinie Kleine Zaal (Small Hall) in Almere, Netherlands on December 15th, 2022 at 8.30pm. The concert, entitled A-A-Almere, will include music written by Almere composers and dedicated to special Almere places with colorful classical music, live video and electronics. Special guest is Brazilian dancer and choreographer, Samir Calixto. | “Get Back Unplugged” will perform a concert of The Beatles music at a Milton St House Concert in Nanaimo, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, on January 7th, 2023, hosted by Harbour City Concerts. The group “Get Back Unplugged” started as an idea of Vancouver-based folk-pop trio The Wahs after seeing the recent Peter Jackson-produced documentary about the famous Get Back recording sessions and the celebrated Beatles rooftop concert. The band includes Allan Dionne (accordion & vocals), Cam Wilson (violin & vocals), Andy Hillhouse (guitar & vocals), Brent Gubbels (bass & vocals), LJ Mounteney (vocals) and Dave Gibbons (guitar & vocals). |

  The 2022 XXXIV International Festival "Bayan and Bayanists" will be held at the Concert Hall of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music (RAM) in Moscow, Russia, from December 14th to 18th, 2022.  CNIMA directed by Nathalie Boucheix will hold their final 2022 accordion workshop from December 19th to 23rd tutored by Jacques Mornet and Nathalie Boucheix (pictured left).The workshop is for all ages, levels and styles. This workshop will give attendees the opportunity to develop their instrumental technique with the Jacques Mornet Method.  The latest updated and expanded article was originally published in 2004 as part of my annual series discussing AAA music commissions carried out by Elsie Bennet, beginning in 1957 with Paul Creston’s Prelude and Dance. It examines the fifteenth and sixteenth commissions, Aria, Scherzo, and Finale, for accordion and orchestra (1961), by Louis B. Gordon, and Night Music, for accordion and string quartet (1964), by David Diamond.
