| It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of renowned teacher Jean Brown from Wishaw, Scotland. Jean Brown was awarded the NAO Award of Merit in 1991. She passed away peacefully on Sunday 15th February after a short illness at the age of 79. Our thoughts at this sad time are with her son Ronnie and the family. The funeral will be held on Friday, details to be published shortly. |

La Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA), un membre du Conseil International de la Musique, la plus grande division non gouvernementales de l'UNESCO, a tenu récemment leur 121ème Assemblée générale des délégués, à Bratislava, en Slovaquie. Organisé par le Vice President de la CIA, Tibor Racz, membre responsable de la CIA de la Slovaquie,et par le Centre de la Méthodique Accordéon - Marta Szokeova (MCA),ont eu 3 jours de réunions, de sessions de travail informel, des spectacles musicaux et des fonctions sociales. Des artistes invités pour le week-end, trois en circulation de la CIA Coupe Mondiale concurrents de la 61eme Coupe Mondiale à Glasgow, en Écosse, organisée par l'Organisation nationale d’accordéon du Royaume-Uni (NAO) - Petar Maric (Serbie), Grayson Masefield (Nouvelle-Zélande) et Julien ‘Speedy’ Gonzales (France). Au cours de ces réunions, le Congrès a approuvé plusieurs prix, dont deux récipiendaires de la CIA, de mérite et de quatre récipiendaires de l'honneur de l'ami Accordéon Award. Les lauréats étaient les suivants: CIA de mérite (Merit Award): Alfred Renner (Danemark) Milana Malencia-Barackova (Serbie) CIA Honoré amis de l'accordéon (Honored Friend): Holda Paoletti-Kampl (Italie) Gary Daverne (Nouvelle-Zélande) Fridrich Nagy (Slovaquie) Alfred Mirek (Russie) De nombreuses manifestations sont prévues pour l'avenir, y compris l'organisation de la Coupe Mondiale assurée pour 2019, le lancement de la Journée mondiale de Accordéon (World Accordion Day) 6 Mai de chaque année (la date anniversaire du brevet original de l'accordéon), la libération d'un multi - vidéo complet de la 61ème Coupe Mondiale et tous les festivals Coupe Mondiale, le lancement de notre première catégorie CIA numérique, le développement de la CIA nouvellement créée Musée international de coopération et de numérisation de la collection Archives de la CIA. «Mondial de Acordeon», Valledupar - Colombieby Rob Howard |
| Le rapport annuel 'Mundial De Acordeon' à Valledupar, la Colombie, aura lieu le 25 et 26 Juin. Les concours d'accordéon, pour les joueurs solo et ensemble, sont la pièce centrale du festival. La date de clôture des inscriptions est prévu le 25 avril. La ville de Valledupar est la capitale culturelle de Vallenato musique, qui a plus de 450 ans. L'accordéon est arrivé avant le 19ème siècle, cette musique à été joué à la flûte, mais de nos jours, elle est principalement joué sur les bouton de l'accordéon diatonique, souvent avec l'accompagnement rythmique.  L'Organisation nationale Accordéon du Royaume-Uni (NAO) North Central Area Festival, un qualificatif pour le Championnat du NAO à Blackpool Royaume-Uni (24 – 26 avril) aura lieu le 7 Février à Saltaire, West Yorkshire. Le lieu, avec 4 salles de la concurrence et d'une zone commerciale, s'est révélée être un grand succès - plus de 250 inscriptions au cours de l'accordéon. La marque solo la plus élevé de la journée (98/100) a été décerné par un membre du jury, Djordje Gajic, à Alexander Bodell. Il y a eu aussi d'excellentes performances de l'Orchestre Craven Accordéon Hardaker et de Thom qui est actuellement un étudiant de Oleg Sharov à Saint-Pétersbourg, en Russie. Il est gratifiant de voir la nouvelle initiative dans un certain nombre d'écoles locales dans le Yorkshire, a conduit à de nombreux jeunes accordéonistes concurrents dans les catégories d'introduction à un festival d'accordéon, pour la première fois. Très populaire a également été le ceilidh tenue dans la soirée mettant en vedette Robert Thorn et sa bande. Le prochain Festivals NAO Espace sont en Renfrewshire, Ecosse, le 21 Février et le Sud-Est de la Tamise le lendemain. Résultats de tous les festivals régionaux qui ont eu lieu jusqu'ici mais sont disponibles sur le site NAO. |

 Alexander Poeluev performances à la «Fresh Wind 'Festival» Oosterpoort, Groningen, le 28 Février. L'événement est organisé en trois sites, avec les concerts, au Foyer Midden Gebied. Alexander Poeluev est en cours d'exécution d'un atelier à 15h, et plus tard dans la soirée se produira en concert à 21h. Vainqueur de la Coupe Mondiale 2002 dans la catégorie Coupe Mondiale Accordéon Piano, et la première place en 2006, la concurrence internationale qui s'est tenue à Shanghai (Chine) ne sont que quelques exemples de cet artiste de succès. Les performances d’ Alexander Poeluev se distingue par sa grande maîtrise de l'instrument, une technique brillante et la virtuosité et la sensibilité d'interprétation.  The Grammy Awards (originally called the Gramophone Awards) - or Grammys - are presented annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the USA for outstanding achievements in the music industry. The categories won by accordion playing acts for 2009 include: - Jimmy Sturr gained his 18th Grammy for Best Polka Album, and Sturr’s fourth consecutive win. - Beausoleil avec Michael Doucet won a Grammy for Best Zydeco/Cajun Album. - Los Tigres del Norte won once again for Best Norteño Album. - They Might Be Giants won their second Grammy, this time for ‘Here Come the 123s’, the Best Musical Album for Children. |

 The Balkan group Paprika Balkanicus is about to head to Australia and New Zealand for a 28-day performance tour, some dates with the Australian group Cat Empire. The members of Paprika Balkanicus are Milos Milivojevic (Serbia) – accordion, Zivorad Nikolic (Serbia) – accordion, Bogdan Vacarescu (Romania) – violin, Vlad Jocic (Serbia) – guitar, and Jozef Secnik (Slovenia) – bass. Paprika Balkanicus’ repertoire will include a foot-stomping, sing-along blend of traditional and Gypsy songs from the Balkans and Eastern Europe, as well as few classical and jazz tunes.  Djordje Gajic began his musical studies in Yugoslavia at the age of 6, finally graduating from the Russian Academy of Music in 1995. Djordje has won many International Competitions, amongst them the Trophée Mondiale in 1988 and the Grand Prix in 1987. He has also received many awards of outstanding merit leading to television and radio broadcasts. He has performed with the Russian State Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Yvgeny Svetlanov, as well as many solo recitals throughout Europe. Djordje Gajic performs an accordion recital St Mary's Church, Putney, London SW15, on Friday February 27th at 1.10pm. The organiser is Kathron Sturrock. | The third annual ‘Big Squeeze’ accordion contest, organised by Texas Folklife and Hohner, takes place on June 6th at the 20th Annual Accordion Kings & Queens Festival, Miller Outdoor Theatre, Houston. Contestants must be age 25 or younger and the entry deadline is March 1st; Prizes include cash, a trip for two to play in Germany (courtesy of Hohner), and a day of recording at Sugar Hill Studios in Houston. Guests at this event include Sunny Sauceda, Santiago Jimenez Jr., Cedryl Ballou, Mark Halata, and Lady ‘D’. The contest was started in 2007 as a way to promote the growth and development of young accordionists in the region. Any genre of music that incorporates the use of the accordion will be accepted, such as Cajun, German, Czech, Polish, Tejano, Country & Western, and Zydeco. | The group Gipsy.cz has been voted by TV viewers to represent the Czech Republic at the 54th Eurovision Song Contest, to be held in Moscow, Russia, on May 16th. The band, featuring accordionist Petr Surmaj, is known for its rap music in the Romani language, and is very popular in the Czech Republic, and is now also gaining popularity throughout Europe. The leader of the band Radosla ‘Gipsy’ Banga, born in Prague, has developed a unique style of Romano hip-hop, combining Roma rhythms and language with the music played by Balkan brass bands. |
