The Accordions Worldwide News for March 8th 2002 included an announcement that the Mexican accordionist José Alfonso Valadez Alanis was celebrating 25 years as a concert accordionist. In Mexico (and Central and South America) most accordionists are from local or national folk music traditions, or are tango musicians. José Alfonso Valadez Alanis, classically trained, is one of the exceptions to this trend, and he continues to performs classical recitals to the present time. 25th Anniversary Concerts – Mexico José Alfonso Valadez Alanis is currently performing a 25th anniversary concert series in Mexico. In February José played a recital in a Cultural Bar in downtown Monterrey, followed by two performances on March 6th at the Music School of the Universidad de Nuevo León and at the Casa de la Cultura de Nuevo León. His program included a variety of works by Verdi, von Suppe, Bizet and Grieg (‘Danza de Anitra’ & ‘Suite Peer Gynt No. I Op.46’). |
