Jukka-Pekka Kuusela, well-known Finnish accordionist and teacher at the Kuhmo Music Institute, (previous student of Friedrich Lips) organized a celebration concert in two parts in conjunction with the National Accordion Day at the Sotkamo Parish Hall,on March 26th, 2024. The concert featured Jukka-Pekka Kuusela’s students from Kuhmo and senior accordion groups from Sotkamo. Their program consisted of solo and different accordion ensemble performances, including music by J.S. Bach, W.A. Mozart, J. Brahms, M. Murto, A. Groethe, S. Berinsky, V. Vesterinen, folk tunes and traditional Finnish accordion music. The day celebrates the birthday of Viljo Vesterinen, well known Finnish accordionist from the first half of the 20th century, and its purpose is to popularize accordion music for audiences. At this concert the hall was full and the audience met the artists with great enthusiasm. |
