| The first Malta Accordion Festival, held on April 17th and 18th in the Fatima Parish Hall in Guardamangia and organized by the Santa Maria Accordion Band of Attard, proved to be a great success. The hall was filled each day with interested spectators. Free drinks and sandwiches were available, and the festival was set up on a voluntary basis, with no external financial backing. The festival was the initiative of the accordionist Philip Agius Phd. The festival included two evening concerts, featuring solos from accordionists Yuri Charyguine (Murmansk, Russia), Maria Gatt, Joseph Grima, Philip Agius, David Attard, Andrew Micallef, Angie Spiteri Hogan, Joseph Farrugia, George Bonello, Pino Agis (concertina), Martin Despott, Magda Magri Naudi, and Emily Mizzi. The Santa Maria Accordion Band (MD Marthese Bussutil Cassar L.B.C.A) performed, and there were also contributions from David J. Sammut – violin and vocals, and Anna Bonello – soprano.
