Marcel Azzola (1927-2019) ist verstorben - Frankreichby Rob Howard |
 Marcel Azzola), einer der berühmtesten französischen Akkordeonisten, ist am 21. Januar im Alter von 91 Jahren friedlich verstorben. Azzola wurde 1927 in Paris als Sohn italienischer Eltern geboren und zeigte schon früh seine Begabung für Musik und professioneles Akkordeon zu spielen.Azzola war einer der wenigen Spieler, der die Kluft zwischen dem großen Zeitalter von Musette und Jazz in den 30er Jahren bis zur Gegenwart überbrückte. Er war Zeitgenosse von Yvette Horner, die letztes Jahr verstorben ist. Er war ein vielseitiger und hochqualifizierter Musiker, dessen Palette Musette, Tango, Klassik sowie Jazz- und Swingmusik umfasste. Er spielte mit Edith Piaf, Juliette Greco, Gilbert Becaud, Yves Montand, dem Saxophonisten Stan Getz, dem Mundharmonikaspieler Toots Thielemans, Django Reinhardt, Stephane Grappelli und vor allem Jacques Brel. Azzola spielte auch auf mehreren Film-Soundtracks, darunter Jacques Tatis "Mon Oncle". Marcel Azzola war bei seinen Kollegen hoch angesehen und beliebt bei allen, ie sedie ihn kannten. Seine langjährige Partnerin war die Pianistin Lina Bossati (Abbildung rechts). |

 Innerhalb weniger Jahre ist das von der Hohner-Konservatorium Trossingen GmbH organisierte Festival Akkordeon Grenzenlos zu einer jährlichen Veranstaltung geworden, die jedes Jahr in der Woche nach Ostern stattfindet.Die Termine für das Jahr 2019 sind vom 23. bis 27. April. Die Veranstaltung umfasst eine Vielzahl von Konzerten, Workshops und Foren mit einem abendlichen Konzert und tagsüber Workshops.   Die Anmeldungen für die 32. Jahrestagung der Nationalen Akkordeon-Vereinigung (NAA), die von NAA-Präsident Norman Seaton geleitet wird, werden am 15. Februar geschlossen. Die Tagung findet vom 7. bis 9. März im Hyatt Regency Hotel in Richardson, Texas statt.Die Tagung 2019 umfasst Orchester-Schulungen (durchgeführt von Lionel Reekie - Bild rechts), digitale und akustische Schulungen (von Markus und Sabine Baggio - Bild links), Akkordeonverkauf, Vorführungen und Demonstrationen, lustige Bandübungen, Workshops mit Singen am Lagerfeuer, Jam-Sessions, Polkaspielen, Aufführungsmöglichkeiten, Volkstanzmusik, Konzerte und vieles mehr. 23. Internationale Woche des Akkordeons - Portugalby Rob Howard |
  Die 23. Internationale Woche des Akkordeons "Alcobaça 2019" findet vom 18. bis 26. Mai in Alcobaça statt und wird von Diana Freire (Wettbewerbsmanagerin) und Aníbal Freire (Präsident der portugiesischen Akkordeon-Vereinigung) organisiert.Diese Internationale Woche wird die 24. National Trophy sowie den 5. Internationalen Akkordeon Wettbewerb am 24. (Konzert), 25. und 26. Mai, beinhalten. Das Hauptziel besteht darin, jungen Akkordeonspielern die Möglichkeit zu geben, ihr Wissen und ihre Fähigkeiten im Vergleich zu anderen internationalen Spielern unter Beweis zu stellen. Der Wettbewerb umfasst Kategorien für Solisten, Duette, Trios, Quartette, Orchester und Kammermusik für alle Altersgruppen. Darüber hinaus gibt es ein Programm von Konzerten und Meisterkursen. | One accordion never sounded like this before! Renowned soloist Alexander Poeluev is joined by Elizaveta Poelueva, Nikita Rodionov, Nikita Seregin, Gennady Ovsyannikov to make this new video titled "Brave experiments with accordion!" Recorded in Rostov-on-Don, Russia in October 2018. I showed this video to an accordionist friend who made the joke: "If I had fingers like Poeluev, I would be more than happy to be a soloist!" We both had a good laugh. Poeluev wrote, that he is travelling now to Lithuania and Belarus to play concerts in Vilnus, Kaunas and Minsk. His CD is available online at: Alexander Poeluev |

 Accordionist, teacher, orchestra conductor and musical director, Jacob Noordzij (Austria) received a warm welcome when he visited the Dargaville Museum Accordion Gems collection on January 24th accompanied by Harley Jones, Christine Johnstone (who is the Museum Manager and an accordionist), Museum Director Maree Saunders and committee members. Jacob conducted the 2014 World Accordion Orchestra VIII and at the conclusion of the concert performance, he presented his 9 row Hohner Marino to Kevin Friedrich to be included as part of his Accordion Gems collection at the Museum. While at the Museum, Jacob entertained the museum committee members playing “Edelweiss” and a traditional New Zealand Maori love song “Pokarekare Ana”. This was followed by a tour of the Museum where Jacob and his family could see his donated accordion displayed in the newly established Music Room (Picture above). In addition to a variety of instruments from the accordion family, the display includes original manuscripts, rare recordings, a 300 piece Accordion Figurine Collection and other accordion related archives and information. Kevin Friedrich sent a message to Jacob which was read out to him at the Museum and ended: "My sincerest thanks to you, for donating your beautiful Hohner accordion to my 'Accordion Gems, A Master Collection of Accordions Through Time' collection". | Accordionist Marco Lo Russo has released his EP entitled “Made in Italy Project” on the Rouge Sound Production label. The EP includes the electroacoustic revisitation of the song “Caruso” by Lucio Dalla three versions: instrumental, sung in Italian and Spanish with ingredients of electronic and acoustic music that distinguish the typical sound of Marco Lo Russo. The Marco Lo Russo Music Center Association has always been involved in fundraising charity to support the disadvantaged all over the world in addition to the activity of music production and international concerts. The EP is widely available on the internet. |

| The Musikmesse in Frankfurt is the international trade fair for musical instruments, sheet music, music production and marketing. This year’s event will be held from April 2nd to 5th and will be open daily for Trade and Private visitors. This new Musikmesse Plaza is an innovative event concept focusing on musicians and music lovers. In different areas there will be vintage exhibitions, record fair, music instrument market, an instrument auction and lots more. In addition there will be stage performances, workshops, demonstrations and discussion events. A full report of the 2018 Frankfurt Musikmesse with photos will be available after the opening. |

 Accordionist Iñaki Alberdi will perform a new double concerto by Jesús Torres with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra on February 20th at the Baluarte Auditorium Chamber Music Hall in Pamplona. The work is entitled “Tansfiguración of Jesús Torres” (concerto for cello, accordion and string orchestra) and will be conducted by José Luis López Antón. The concert includes a duo recital with Asier Polo (cello - picture left) of pieces by Piazzolla, Bach and Gubaidulina. Accordionist Iñaki Alberdi studied under Carlos Iturralde, and completed his training under Friedrich Lips and Matti Rantanen at the International Centre for Accordion Studies, the Gnessin Institute in Moscow, and the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. He was awarded first prizes at the Coupe Mondiale (Colmar, 1994), the International Accordionist and Bayanist Competition (Moscow, 1995) and the Music Competition for Youth (Valladolid, 1996).  The Vardos Trio which includes accordionist Sofia Chapman, will entertain at the 25th Roseberry Festival held in Tasmania, Australia from February 22nd to 24th. The group play a variety of music learnt from Roma (Gypsy) musicians during their travels in Eastern Europe. Based in Melbourne, the band has toured to Hungary, France, Berlin, Switzerland, Amsterdam, New Caledonia, New Zealand, London and Scotland. For further information email: vardos@hotmail.com |

  An accordion trip to Castelfidardo & San Marino in Italy for five days from May 14th to 18th has been organised by PLG Marketing. They already have bookings from accordionists in the UK, USA and Canada. The trip will include a selection of accordions to play at the hotel during the stay, visits to factories to see accordions being made, see how reeds and bellows are produced, visit the Accordion Museum, try the largest working accordion in the world, try new instruments in the showrooms, evening entertainment and a final night dinner with guest accordionist.  The “Not Just Oom-Pah Accordion Concert” will be held on April 5th at Central Market North, Austin, Texas featuring Jamie Maschler (pictured), Rachel Bell and Karen Axelrod. The concert is free and open to the public. This will be followed by the "Not Just Oom-Pah Accordion Workshop" on April 6th and 7th at the Lamar Senior Activity Centre in Austin, Texas.  Was planen Sie für den Weltakkordeon-Tag, um das Akkordeon in Ihrem Land zu fördern? Der Weltakkordeon-Tag ist am 6. Mai, dem Tag, an dem das Akkordeon 1829 patentiert wurde.Der Weltakkordeon-Tag wurde 2009 von der CIA ins Leben gerufen und bisher sehr erfolgreich, was für das Akkordeon viel positive Resonanz brachte. Ein wichtiger Teil dieser Veranstaltung ist die Website des World Accordion Day. Jeder Verein, jede Gruppe, jedes Orchester, Performer und Lehrer wird gebeten, diese Veranstaltung aktiv zu unterstützen, indem er nationale und lokale Akkordeonaktivitäten an diesem Tag oder am Wochenende, vor oder nach demAkkordeon-Tages, falls dies besser in ein Programm passen sollte. Jeder kann seine Aktivitäten zum Weltakkordeon-Tag auf der Website registrieren und danach einen Bericht über seine Veranstaltung verfassen. Keine Veranstaltung ist zu groß oder zu klein. ALLE Akkordeonveranstaltungen zum Weltakkordeontag sind herzlich willkommen.
