![]() Picture right: Newly elected IMC President Sheila Woodward (USA/South Africa) and Mirco Patarini. The CIA is the accordion member of the International Music Council (IMC), an Official NGO partner of UNESCO. In 1975, the CIA was the first instrument specific organization to be accepted into the IMC. The IMC was founded in 1949 at the request of UNESCO as an advisory body on musical matters. Mirco Patarini and Kimmo Mattila explained to the newly elected IMC Board and President, the main activities of the CIA and described the main working processes of the CIA. For example the election process and finances works well in the CIA and the importance of live events (instead of online) and face-to-face meetings, also being an important part of the CIA success. As IMC approaches its 75th anniversary in 2024, this 40th General Assembly will be a key moment for the life of the international organisation. Some 120 members from all continents, representing a large range of the international music ecosystem, came together in Rabat to shape IMC’s future actions around its core values embedded in the Five Music Rights. IMC previously held a successful General Assembly in Rabat in 2015 and the 2023 'Visa for Music' has become a unique event bridging Africa with the international music communities. 'Visa for Music' also hosts conferences, speed-meetings, workshops, and training sessions to multiply encounters and offer multiple opportunities. |

Susanne Kujala Completes Landmark Recording Project - Finlandby Christine Johnstone |
![]() |
![]() ![]() This achievement accompanies a dynamic concert career that has led her to prestigious venues such as the Philharmonie de Paris, the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, and the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, Spain. Kujala studied accordion, coaching and organ at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin and at the Sibelius Academy of the Helsinki University of the Arts and received her Doctor of Music degree from the latter in 2013, where she has been teaching organ performance since 2009. The performer's repertoire is diverse, extending from the earliest extant organ music to contemporary compositions of the 21st century. In this recording, she combines her knowledge of historical performance practice with the rich tonal facets and dynamic flexibility of the classical accordion. Although the preludes and fugues of both parts of the Well-Tempered Clavier have been a staple of accordionists’ repertoire for decades, with several individual recordings made, a comprehensive recording has been lacking. The albums at hand not only fill that gap but do so in a uniquely compelling way, with Kujala's classical accordion tuned to Lehman's well-tempered tuning. Bradley Lehman interprets the ornament at the top of the title page of the first part of the Well-Tempered Clavier as a tuning instruction. In contrast to equal temperament, the keys therefore sound more balanced, clearer, and also more characteristic. The complete recording of the first part of the Well-Tempered Clavier was released on 21 December 2021 on the BellowsArt record label and has been available digitally on all known streaming platforms from that date. The complete recording of both parts of the Well-Tempered Clavier was released on November 23rd, 2023 in the form of two double CDs. For further information email: info@bellowsart.fi |
