BBC Radio 2's Young Folk Award 2010, London – UK

BBC Radio 2 logoThe BBC Radio 2's Young Folk Award 2010 takes place on Friday December 4th in London. The 6 finalists include accordionist Chris Keatinge, and the band Cinnte, from Northern Ireland, featuring Ciaran Hanna - on concertina.

Chris Keatinge has been playing the button accordion for 15 years now, under the tutelage of Ian Lowthian. In 2005 Chris won the Rotarty Club's ‘Young Musican of the Year’ and was a 2006 finalist in the BBC Radio Scotland’s ‘Young Traditional Musician of the Year’. Since then he has performed across Scotland with the TMSA ‘Young Trad Tour’ as part of Harris Playfair's ‘Coel Mor’ at the Aberdeen International Festival, and most recently as part of the Border Tunesmiths, a collaborative project and concert of 9 Borders musicians.

Cinnte are a group of friends (and brothers) who have played Irish traditional music together for a few years at fleadhs (competitions) and festivals. They decided to form a band in 2008 to launch a local cultural festival, and since then have appeared on Irish national television and are preparing to record their first album.
