The Second International Academy of Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble (MCME) was held in Tchaikovsky city in the Perm region, Russia, earlier this month. Twelve composers from Canada, Greece, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain and Russia selected by the professional jury were requested to work on new compositions under the patronage of guest-professors Mark Andre (Germany\France) and Klaus Lang (Austria) as well as the instrumentalists of the MCME, including the accordionist Sergej Tchirkov. Six compositions which were premiered at the gala-concert featured the accordion. In addition to the lectures and workshops Tchirkov conducted master-classes and performed a recital featuring works by Dieter Schnebel, Helmut Oehring, Olli Virtaperko, Sergej Newski, Esaias Jarnegaard, and Klaus Lang. The programme of the final concert, which was held in Moscow Philharmonic Chamber Hall on September 17th, included six new works featuring the accordion by Anna Romashkova, Anna Arkushina, Jagoda Szmytka, Leonid Imennyh, Zesses Seglias, and the solo piece by Se Hyung Kim, titled ‘Qi II’. Tchirkov also took part in the performance of ‘Origami’ (cello, flute, accordion) by Klaus Lang.
