 Vídeo: El vídeo comienza en el minuto 3:10 "Conoce a la familia" de instrumentos del Museo A World of Accordions por Kevin Friedrich, con la ayuda de Jane Christison. El Museo A World of Accordions celebró su Día Mundial del Acordeón anual y el Festival Dr. Willard Palmer en Superior, Wisconsin, del 6 al 8 de mayo de 2022. Con conciertos, conferencias, una orquesta de festival, dos servicios de polca y varios eventos sociales, el festival fue aclamado como un tremendo éxito, atrayendo al público tanto en vivo como en línea. Entre los invitados destacados se encontraban el alcalde de Superior, Jim Paine, el presidente y conservador del Museo, Helmi Harrington, Ph, (foto de la derecha) el Dr. Mike Middleton (en solitario y con los Middletones), el embajador de la CIA y vicepresidente del museo Kevin Friedrich, Dee Langley (en solitario y con el Masked Accordion Ensemble), Joanna Arnold Darrow, Jazzlynne Skye, John Scaffeo, Mary Kay y Katherine Archuletta, William Popp, Accordion Concertina Music and Friends Accordion Band dirigida por Tracey Gibbens, Hostfest Ensemble y el Dr. Craig Funderberg.  Este año, por decimocuarta vez, la Asociación de Acordeonistas de Macedonia (MAA) "Ljubiteli na klasichna muzika" - Skopje apoyó el proyecto internacional de la CIA "6 de mayo Día Mundial del Acordeón (World Accordion Day - WAD)" con varios eventos musicales emocionantes. Foto de la derecha: Bete Ilin, Zorica y Anica Karakutovska. La asociación organizó un concierto solemne para celebrar el evento internacional y el cumpleaños del instrumento. El concierto de la WAD se celebró el 7 de mayo en la sala de la Filarmónica de Skopje, en un ambiente íntimo. El nuevo edificio de la Filarmónica ofrece un recinto de gran calidad que los artistas aprovecharon al máximo. El anfitrión del evento fue el popular presentador de televisión macedonio Ognen Janeski. El Concierto de Gala de la WAD se ha convertido en los últimos años en un importante y prestigioso acontecimiento cultural y artístico en el país y también en el extranjero, gracias a que el concierto es retransmitido en todo el mundo por una cadena de televisión nacional. Este año el concierto será transmitido por televisión como parte de la celebración de la Fiesta Nacional del 24 de mayo, Ss. Cirilo y Metodio. En el concierto participaron artistas de renombre y estudiantes de acordeón de la clase de la profesora Zorica Karakutovska que interpretaron obras de Viatcheslav Semionov, Vladimir Zubitsky, Bete Ilin, Piazzolla, Mozart, etc. La famosa pianista macedonia Marija Gjoshevska acompañó al acordeonista Filip Petreski en la sorprendente interpretación de la composición Rossiniana de Vladimir Zubitsky. Filip, uno de los mejores acordeonistas jóvenes, ofreció un concierto en la Sala de Cámara de la Filarmónica el 16 de mayo. El concierto fue organizado por la Filarmónica. En el concierto de este año, el invitado especial Mirco Patarini (Italia) interpretó el estreno de la composición "Dafino" del famoso compositor macedonio Bete Ilin. La composición ha sido compuesta especialmente para este evento y está dedicada al Presidente de la CIA, Mirco Patarini, y al apoyo a la WAD. La sala estaba ocupada por un público muy entusiasta que reaccionó con verdadera emoción y recompensó a los músicos con merecidos aplausos. Su reacción ante la interpretación de la composición "Dafino" fue estupenda, con comentarios muy positivos tras el concierto. El Sr. Presidente ha hecho muy bien su trabajo.  Veli Kujala (Finland) is the accordionist performing in the Metropolitan Opera’s “Hamlet”, an adaptation of the classic play by Brett Dean (Australia) and Matthew Jocelyn which is both traditional and innovative, elegant and passionate.The first reviews have been published and the accordion is mentioned by the New York Times “So many of Dean’s ideas are inspired, like adding the forlorn country lilt of an accordionist (Veli Kujala) to the scene in which Hamlet corrals a traveling troupe of actors to put on an evocation of his father’s murder” and on Opera Wire “There are experimental passages….such as the entire play sequence wherein an accordion is the main, and sometimes only, musical presence”. The whole production takes place at the Metropolitan Opera House, Lincoln Center, Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York. Future live performances will be held on May 21st, 26th and 31st as well as June 4th and 9th, 2022. The shows are running until June 9th, with the June 4th performance streamed live on Metropolitan HD cinemas all over the world. |

| The online 2nd Baidi Cup will again be held online, organized by the Tianjin Baidi Culture and Art Co., Ltd and the Accordion Professional Committee of Tianjin Music Association. The competition aims to promote accordion culture, enrich the artistic life of accordion lovers, to promote exchanges and interaction in the field of accordion between China and the world and to give young people the opportunity to perform by providing a stage for accordionists.  Video: “Las Fenix” performing "Un Traguito de Tequila".The 33rd Annual Accordion Kings & Queens will be held at the Miller Outdoor Theatre in Houston, Texas, USA on June 4th, 2022 at 7pm, organised by Texas Folklife. The event will be held live in-person and live streamed and feature “Las Fenix”, “RJ & Kreole Smoove”, “Cameron Dupuy & the Cajun Troubadours” as well as the 2022 Big Squeeze Champions - winners from Texas Folklife’s Big Squeeze 2022 youth accordion contest in the genre categories of Polka, Cajun, Zydeco and Conjunto (see picture below).  Composers from around the world are invited to take part in a new competition entitled “Wolfgang Jacobi Composition Prize”, which has been organised by the Deutscher Harmonika Verband (DHV) in cooperation with the Deutscher Akkordeonlehrer-Verband (DALV).The aim of the competition is to encourage composers of accordion works, to deal with Jacobi's compositional technique and to take up a theme or fragment of Jacobi's composition. The competition prize is supported by the descendants of Wolfgang Jacobi, Hohner Musikinstrumente GmbH and Jetelina.de. The jury will consist of composers and accordion professionals and is chaired by composer Prof. Moritz Eggert (picture right), from the Hochschule für Musik and Theater München. Registration deadline is October 1st, 2022.  The National Accordion Competition Dobrany, organized by the Dobrany Accordion School in cooperation with the J. S. Bach Elementary Art School will be held at the J. S. Bach Dobrany Art School in Dobrany, Czech Republic from June 10th to 12th, 2022.The competition for accordionists from the Czech Republic will include categories for soloists and chamber ensembles such as Junior Classic, Senior Classic, Masters, Junior Chamber Music, Senior Chamber Music, World Music, Junior Variety and Senior Variety. Each competitor will receive a diploma with special prizes as follows: • Selected laureates will be offered a performance at the Bechovická Harmonika Festival • Contestants with the highest points will be selected to represent the Czech Republic at the Trophée Mondiale 2022 World Accordion Competition • Selected accordionists will be invited to perform at the opening concert of the 2023 National Accordion Competition Dobrany • Special prize for the youngest participant of the competition For details email: vacepe@seznam.cz |

 The 2022 Che Bandoneon International Competition will be held in Stowe, Vermont, USA from August 14th to 21st, 2022 as a part of the 2022 Stowe Tango Music Festival. Che Bandoneon competition finalists are: Leonel Gasso (Uruguay) Alex Roitman (USA) Sinai Rim (South Korea) Heyni Solera (USA) The Competition is open to bandoneon players of all nationalities who must be at least 18 years of age by August 1st, 2022. Events timeline: • August 8th: Tango Academy and Bandoneon Workshop (All finalists will receive full Scholarship to the workshop) • August 14th: Finalists join 2022 Stowe Tango Music Festival • August 21st: Finals and Award Ceremony.  On May 11th, 2022, Duo Aliada performed J.S.Bach’s Goldberg Variations at the Casino Baumgarten in Vienna, Austria.The aim of the duo Aliada is to juxtapose two neglected classical instruments such as the accordion and the saxophone in a duo formation and to use the "almost infinite possibilities in terms of timbre and dynamic range". Bogdan Laketic (Serbia) and Michal Knot (Poland) won 1st prize at the Fidelio competition in Vienna in 2013, which was the start of their international career with international festival performances and CD recordings. The "Goldberg Variations" belong to J.S. Bach's most important large-scale works for a keyboard instrument. The theme, which artistically undergoes 30 modifications, is an "Aria" in triple time of the Sarabande, which already appears in Anna Magdalena Bach's music book from 1725. In the arrangement for accordion and saxophone, the Aliada duo, aware of Bach's affinity for arranging his own works, continue this tradition while shedding a new light on this masterpiece by presenting the "Goldberg Variations" with a dimension of timbre and expressiveness, which can only be achieved with saxophone and accordion. |

  This week Gorka Hermosa premiered his latest two compositions in Barcelona, Spain - "Children Suite No 3" and a "curious score" entitled "4 bars".Gorka was challenged by the photographer Blas González to write a four-bar composition on a photo that he sent. His project was to send this same challenge to different well-known composers and publish a book for the benefit of “Musicians Without Borders” with each score and photo. In the project there were composers such as well known and internationally renowned as Evelyn Glennie (UK), Octavio Vazquez (USA), Fernando Buide, Gabriel Erkoreka, Teresa Catalán, Jesus Torres, Rosa Torres-Pardo, David del Puerto, Alfredo Aracil, Jean -Denis Michat (France), Ulrike Haage (Germany) and Left Segerstam (Finland).. In addition Gorka held a successful masterclass at the Conservatory in Barcelona on May 16th. |

 Marcus Rompf, an accordion craftsman was just 55 years old when he passed away from a long term illness last week in Castelfidardo, Italy.Marcus arrived in Italy many years ago (from Germany) and worked as a specialized accordion technician in Castelfidardo before starting up his own business manufacturing machined parts for accordions factories. He leaves behind his fiancée (as he was due to be married this year) and six children. His funeral was held on May 16th, 2022 in the Sant'Agostino Church in Castelfidardo. |

| The Handharmonika-Club 1932 Ditzingen e.V. will hold a concert to celebrate their 90th Anniversary at the Church of Constance in Ditzingen, Germany on May 22nd, 2022 at 4pm. This concert will include a performance by the 1st Orchestra conducted by Vitali Neifert and the Quintet led by Martin Spieß. | Davide Vendramin (bandoneon) will perform in a concert entitled “Tango Forever” at the National Palace of Culture in Sofia, Bulgaria on May 28th, 2022 at 7pm. He will be joined by Ina Kancheva (soprano), Bulent Bezduz (tenor), Sesim Bezdyuz (violin), Kalina Hristova (violin), Kristiana Alipieva (cello) and Doach Bezdyuz (piano). The festival is held under the patronage of the President of Republic of Bulgaria Mr. Rumen Radev and is part of the Calendar of Cultural Events of Sofia Municipality for 2022.   The Australian Accordion Teachers Association Inc. (AATA) has announced their 2022 Australian International Accordion Video project entitled “Bringing the World Together Through the Accordion”.President of the AATA, Tatjana Marx (picture above) says the video project will give accordionists of all ages, all levels and all nations the opportunity to submit a video to be compiled together as a showcase of how when we work together, all differences can be put aside! This event is open to accordionist soloists, duets, trios and ensembles as well as groups that feature the accordion. The final edited video of performances will be released online in early June 2022. The Australian Accordion Teachers Association has decided to postpone their annual international competition for 2022, and instead create a platform for accordionists from all over the world to come together in celebration of our favourite instrument. Entries close on May 30th, 2022 and videos must be submitted by June 3rd, 2022. For further details visit the AATA website. |
