The accordionist Oroitz Maiz, born in Gabiria in 1983, passed away this Thursday in Barcelona. According to the report of the television channel Euskal Telebista, on Saturday evening he choked while eating dinner and since then had been in a coma. Oroitz Maiz (Gabiria, Basque Country, 1983) began his musical studies age 7 and continues his studies in classical accordion at the "International Studies Center Acordeonísticos" with teachers Carlos Iturralde and Miren Iñarga. He has been awarded numerous competitions at state and worldwide as the Iberian Accordion Competition (Alcobaça, Portugal); International Competition of Les Corts, Guipuzcoano Accordion Competition, the International Accordion Competition (Andorra), music Youth of Spain, among others.
