The Accordions Worldwide news published on June 13th 1997 included the first article from Japan, about the annual ‘Viva Accordion’ festival. Is this festival still being held? ACCORDION FESTIVAL IN JAPAN Contributed by Mika Takayama The accordion festival "Viva, Accordion", with performances by amateur and professional accordionists, was held on the 1st of June at the Matsubara City Culture Hall in Osaka. The Festival is organised by the Japan Accordion Association and takes place once a year in Osaka. Mr Shoji Mikami played the local folk song "The River Konogawa, Paper Artisar's Song". Miss Midon Wakinaka, the President of the Hiroshima Accordion Kyohshitsu, performed "Like the Wind", which was written in memory of the late Mrs Wataki, who was a member of the Japan Accordion Association. Mr Toru Katou, an accordion fan in Japan, played "18th Goldberg Variations", by Bach |
