Stockport Accordion Club’s Charity Concert, Cheshire – UK

Stockport Accordion Club concert
Stockport Accordion Club’s big annual charity fund raising concert, organised by John Jones MBE, took place on Friday December 8th at the Broken Cross Club in Macclesfield, Cheshire. This year’s line-up included the Stockport AC Band (with no less than six conductors – John Trigg, Dennis Pepler, Adrienne Sharpe, Tony Ainscough, Marj Howard, Brennan Wilson!), Accordion Spice, Scottish Quartet, Helen Rich, and the fabulous and inimitable Pearl Fawcett-Adriano, who performed solos and also duets with her cousin Philip Watson.

The Band pieces included The Bluebell Polka, Las Chiapanecas, After the Ball, Simple Gifts, Amapola, Schneewalzer, Donauwellen, Wien bleibt Wien, Moonlight Serenade, My Way, Liberty Bell, and the Policeman’s Song. SAC member Ged Sweeney sang the ‘Policeman’s Song (from Gilbert & Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance), backed by the Band, which proved to be a highlight.

We have been doing this concert since 1999 and this year’s event raised over £1,000 for the East Cheshire Hospice whilst doing our bit to showcase the accordion to the general public.
