Fernando Ávila (picture left) won a composition award at the 2023 Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM) Musicians Contest in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, with his piece “Tango pour Carla”. The music was arranged for accordion and strings and was inspired by Astor Piazzolla's new tango. The name of the piece makes reference to Tango pour Claude, by French accordionist Richard Galliano.

In the same year, Polish accordionist Nikodem Sobek performed the piece at the Trophée Mondial De L'accordéon, in which he won 2nd place. In 2021, Sobek also performed this piece when he was World Senior category at the 46th PIF Castelfidardo, Italy, and at the 74th Coupe Mondiale (International Accordion Competition), in Munich, Germany, where he won 2nd prize in the Virtuoso Entertainment category.

Fernando Ávila will premiere this piece in Brazil, performing it with the Orquestra de Cordas da Orquestra Sinfônica de Santa Maria, on August 22nd, at 8 pm, at the Convention Center of the Federal University of Santa Maria, located on the University Campus.
