 June 2nd 2011 would have been the 90th birthday of composer and accordionist Eugene Ettore (photo top right, 1921-85), and one of the outstanding luminaries of the American accordion scene in the years post World War Two. In honor of his birthday, USA News Editor Rita Davidson (photo lower right) has updated the dedicated website with photos of Ettore’s many distinguished awards and honors received over the years. All of these prestigious awards are on a wall in the Ettore home in Livingston, New Jersey, where his daughter, Carol, and family still live. Eugene Ettore was closely associated with and an heir to the musical traditions of his fellow Italian-American accordion legends, Pietro Frosini and the Deiro brothers, Pietro and Guido. The CD ‘Ettore Fantasia’, recorded in 1999 by Pearl Fawcett-Adriano, showcases 14 of Ettore’s compositions. It is hoped that all - especially the younger generation of upcoming accordion artists – will learn about him and include his music in their repertoire. Future plans for the website Eugene Ettore include mp3 examples of his compositions as recorded by Rita Davidson and the release of unpublished music on the MusicForAccordion website.
