 A revival of ‘Evita’ opened on April 5th at the Marquis Theatre on Broadway, New York, starring Elena Roger and Ricky Martin, and featuring accordionist Eddie Monteiro. The show is running at the Marquis Theatre until December 30th 2012. ‘Evita’ is a musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, set in Argentina and based on the life of Eva Perón, the wife of President Juan Perón. The story follows Evita's early life, rise to power, charity work, and eventual death. ‘Evita’, written in 1976, has been a major worldwide success, and was filmed in 1996, starring Maddona and Antonio Banderas. The well-known and highly regarded jazz musician Eddie Monteiro, widely known for his entertaining style, has over 30 years of musical performance in classical music, jazz, dance, theater and cabaret. He is the youngest honoree ever elected to the American Accordionists’ Association Hall of Fame in 1994.?Eddie Monteiro has performed at jazz festivals throughout the world and resides in East Hanover, New Jersey, where he is a K-8 music teacher in the Newark School system and uses his accordion in his classroom music teaching.
