Famously mysterious North Korea is full of surprises, not the least of which is its cultural fondness for the accordion. The musical squeezebox is known as the "people's instrument" because its convenient size makes it ideal to take on marches. For years, the accordion has been taught in North Korean schools. In the 1990's teachers were required to pass an accordion exam to apply for their job. |
