Accordionists Success, “Composer of XXI Century” International Competition - Russia

The International competiton “Composer of XXI century” was held on the 24th and 25th January at the Main hall of the Moscow Composers House and Organ Hall, Central Music School in Moscow.

This important competition for the promotion of contemporary music attracted around 120 participants for 3 categories: best compositions, ensemble and vocal performers. The competition was organized by competition president Igor Evard, Russian Union of Composers, Moscow Union of Composers and the music newspaper “Da Capo Al Fine”.

The jury members were important composers and musicians not connected with the accordion. Each category had 3 rounds. Ensemble included many duets, trio, quartets and quintets of classical instruments, piano, string, wind instruments and even harps.
 
Only 5 ensembles went to the final 3rd round, and in an incredible success, all prize-winners in ensemble nomination and best composition were connected with accordion.
Best composition – Spanish scenes “El y Ella” by Tatiana Shatkovksaya-Eisenberg on lyrics of F. Garcia Lorca for quintet with reciter, soprano, violin, guitar and accordion. Accordion part performed by Maria Vlassova, well known Russian piano accordion player, winner of many international competitions.
 
Ensemble nomination:
3rd prize – “Ensemble of Shatkovskaya-Eisenberg” included accordionist Maria Vlassova - picture top.

2nd prize – accordion duo “Una SInistra” of Yulia Amerikova and Alexander Selivanov (picture above). Program of duo included original pieces written and arranged specially for the duo: “Waltz-Caprice” and “Fest in the Mountain from Balkan Rhapsody” by Viatcheslav Semionov, “Anantango” by Gorka Hermoza.
 
1st prize – “Fandango” ensemble (picture below). This quintet of strings and accordion organized in the middle 2000 by Maxim Fedorov, accordionists, former student of professor Viatcheslav Semionov. “Fandango” performs contemporary and light style music in many stages of Moscow. For the competition “Fandago” performed piece for strings and accordion “Ex Animo”, music of one of jury members, composer Efrem Podgaits, who wrote many compositions for Russian accordionist Friedrich Lips.
 
The great success of accordionists was important promotion of accordion art.
