Esztergom is where King St. Steven, the Founder of the State was born. It was the first capital of Hungary. Spacious squares alternate with zigzagging alleys. Large baroque buildings with tiny little cottages snuggled up to one another here in the gateway to the Danube band.

The crown of the town is the Basilica, the main church of Hungarian Catholicism even today and an Episcopal seat. The collection of the Christian Museum which has a great reputation all over Europe is more important than those of the Budapest museums regarding its subject matter.

LOCATION: The city Esztergom is located in the Danube bend, near Budapest (50 km). Esztergom is the residence of the Hungarian Catholic Church.
