Ibagué Festival Masterclass & Concert - Colombiaby Christine Johnstone |
The Ibagué Festival was held at the Conservatory of Music in Ibagué, Tolima from August 15th to 19th organized by the Salvi Foundation of Colombia. During the festival, a Masterclass was held by Chinese accordionist Hanzhi Wang on August 17th & 18th. Colombian concert accordionist Lácides Romero Meza (picture below left), attended the special masterclass and interpreted three movements of the Suite in D minor (Handel), original for harpsichord and the Sarabanda in G minor by Andre Cardinal Destouches, for organ. During the class they also played Oblivion (Astor Piazzolla), and music themes from the Colombian Atlantic coast. Romero gifted these scores and other works of his own authorship "Colombian Variations to the Carnival of Venice" and “Colombian Music Pieces of the Atlantic Coast arranged for accordion". Following the masterclass, Hanzi Wang (picture below right) gave a well received concert on August 17th to an audience of over 600 people. Her program included works by Scarlatti, Piazzolla, Grieg, Moszokovski, and Wang. |
