 This year’s annual festival ‘Accordions International 2014’ at Mundesley Holiday Centre, Norfolk, will be the last one, bringing to an end a tradition of accordion festivals in this area that began in 1986 at nearby Caister. The organizer is Heather Smith. The festival takes place from October 20th to 24th, and booking is only by telephone to Sceptre Productions on 01780 782 093, between 10am and 4pm on weekdays. The guests include the Paris-Moscow Duo (Domi Emorine and Roman Jbanov), Pearl Fawcett-Adriano, David Vernon & Dick Lee, Harry Hussey, Rosemary Wright, Bert Santilly, etc. The festival includes concerts, workshops, late night jazz, dancing, and a trade show that includes Black Diamond Accordions, MAP Editions, and Robaccord Publications. The workshops include: Intermediate (MD Brian Jenkins), Elementary (MD Rosemary Wright), Scottish (MD David Vernon), Jazz (MD Bert Santilly), Vintage Accordions (MD Heather Smith), Swing Band (MD Geoff Cook/Heather Smith), Buskers (MD Bert Santilly), Free & Easy (Adrienne Sharpe). The very first festival at Caister in 1986, organised by the late Malcolm Gee, at Caister, starred the legendary Toralf Tollefsen (Norway), The Lars Ek Hot Trio (Sweden), and also featured Edward Hession, Owen Murray, Tony Compton, Neil Rowan, the Orchestre Atsienga d’Irun (Spain, MD Merche Recarte), and the hilarious Frankfurter Schunkel Band, from Birmingham. Also performing, unofficially, were accordionists Jack Emblow, Harry Hussey, Mario Conway, John Leslie, and concertina players Dave Townsend, Pat Robson and Brian Hayden.
