19th Accordion Festival - Israel

orchestra
Uzi Rozenblat, Vitaly PodolskiVideo: Emil Aibinder and his group.

The annual Israeli Accordion Festival was held recently in the amphitheater of Nahalal, an agricultural settlement in the valley of Yizrael during “Days of milk and honey”. The event is dedicated to the memory of Yehuda Oppenheimer, who owns the title of “The Prophet of the Accordion in Israel”.

Over 3,000 people gathered from all over the country to listen to talented Israeli and well known accordion players play a variety of classical, Balkan, French, Piazzolla and Israeli music.

Among the artists, was Emil Aibinder (picture below with his group) who's popular group has performed extensively.

Other artists included Uzi Rosenblat (picture right), Vitali Podolsky (picture right lower), Yossi Gruska and the Bustenaim Orchestra (of over 30 players – accordion and other instruments, picture above). This orchestra was founded by Yehuda’s student Shuki Medanes and conducted by Mr. Hodorov.

25 years ago Techiya and Shmulik Kalosh started the accordion gathering in the yard of their home. Shmulik was Yehuda’s student and Techiya was the organizer. As the festival grew, it moved to the Yizrael Valley. Techiya and Shmulik are the “beating heart” of the festival as they invite the musicians and put together the program.
