Kimmo Pohjonen, Taistelu / Battle Stadium Spectacular - Finland

Battle logo
Kimmo PohjonenKimmo Pohjonen and K Cube consisting of Kimmo Pohjonen, Sami Kuoppamäki (percussion) and Timo Kämäräinen (guitar) and the Proton String Quartet will perform at the Turku European Cultural Capital 2011 events at Paavo Nurmi Stadium.

Written and directed by Kari Heiskanen, Taistelu / Battle is a stadium spectacle that combines a dramatic story with visual and musical scenery.

The mesmerising music that surrounds the audience is created by accordion artist Kimmo Pohjonen and the performers and artistic team comprises composer Kimmo Pohjonen with the above performers plus a sixty voice male choir, coordinated by choreographer and assistant director Ari Numminen and visual designer Ilkka Paloniemi.

The performance combines theatre, dancing and actors, such as Sami Saikkonen and Karoliina Blackburn. The visual and sound effects will be produced by the Archipelago Sea Naval Command.

Battle questions the categories on which our society is based. The work examines what power and powerlessness mean in a time when it is increasingly difficult to control the surrounding circumstances.

Accommodating an audience of about 4,000 for each performance, the Paavo Nurmi Stadium in the Turku Sports Park is a perfect venue for massive productions like Battle.

Performance dates are
Wednesday 31st August
Friday 2nd September
Saturday 3rd September
all starting at 9.00 p.m., Paavo Nurmi Stadium, Turku.
