Allan AtlasSir Charles WheatstoneThe Accordions Worldwide News for March 22nd 2002 included a report about a concert in the USA honouring Sir Charles Wheatstone (1802-75), inventor of the English concertina – sister instrument of the accordion.

It is interesting to note that Wheatstone patented the first concertina in London on June 6th 1829, just one month after Cyrillius Demien patented the accordion in Vienna.

Wheatstone was actually one of the great inventors of the 19th Century, with many scientific inventions to his credit, including the Wheatstone Bridge.
