Internet International Accordion Competition "Shpakprize", New York, USAby Tania Lukic-Marx |
The competition "Shpakprize", was founded by Nina Shpak, Elena Belashova, Alexander Shpak and the American corporation ShpakInternational Inc., in 2007. The main idea of the competition was the financial support of talented bayan (accordion) players. The competition was held in 2 stages, with the qualifying round held via video recordings, by the corporation: ShpakInternational, Inc., and the final held via the Internet. The jury members were: Vladimir Besfamilnov (Ukraine), Pavel Fenyuk (Ukraine), Tania Lukic-Marx (Australia), Alexander Sevastian (Canada), Vladimir Shashin (Russia), Namie Taniguchi (Japan), Aleksander Vasin (USA), Mika Väyrynen (Finland), Vladimir Zubitsky (Italy/Ukraine), and Aleksander Zhurbin (USA/Russia). Scores were based on a 25 point system, and each member of the jury sent in their marks by mail. There were 17 competitors, from China, Croatia, Russia, Spain and the Ukraine. Three competitors were disqualified for technical reasons. Top 10 finalists were awarded with Prizes and Diplomas. Based on the results of the competition, there will be a booklet and a DVD officially published. The next competition will take place in 2009.
