 On 16th June 2022, the Vienna Philharmonic's Summer Night Concert took place in Schönbrunn Palace Park in Vienna, Austria. Around 65,000 visitors listened to the open-air concert, which was conducted for the first time by Andris Nelson. Their program included works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Mykola Lysenko, Arturs Maskats, Camille Saint-Saëns, Gioacchino Rossini, George Enescu, Bedrich Smetana, Antonin Dvorák and Johann Strauß. In view of the war in Ukraine, their message was “International understanding through music”! Alfred Melichar (picture right), accordion professor at the Bruckner Privat-University in Linz, was invited to perform Arturs Maskats’ “Tango for symphonic orchestra”. |
