Finnish accordionist Mika Väyrynen (picture above) will appear at the Båstad Chamber Music Festival in Sweden, which this year features Composer in Residence, world renowned composer Sofia Gubaidulina (picture above). Russian television will travel to the festival to make a documentary about the performances of her music, as well as conduct interviews with her, the performers of her works and the audience. On June 28th Mika will perform ‘Seven Words’, by Gubaidulina, together with Reinhard Latzko (cello) with the Jönköpings Sinfonietta, under the direction of Hannu Koivula at the Förslöv Church. On June 30th, Mika Väyrynen will open the concert at the Torekov Church performing Bach's magnificent ‘Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor’, and then will perform Gubaidulina’s ‘In Croce’ with Alexander Suslin (contrabass). This performance will feature the most recent version of ‘In Croce’ for bayan and contrabass. Both concerts will be recorded by Swedish Radio P2. Gubaidulina will attend the rehearsals, affording the performers a rare and welcome opportunity to collaborate with and meet her, undoubtedly one of the most important and respected composers of today.
