‘Gateway to the Tall Ships’, Belfast – UK

Four Men and a Dog band‘Gateway to the Tall Ships’ is a maritime event in Custom House Square, Belfast, Northern Ireland, from August 13th to 16th, celebrating the end of the ‘The Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge 2009’, which takes place between April and August. This event presents an eclectic musical celebration of global influences, including Irish, Mexican and Indian traditions, New Orleans style jazz, as well as contemporary sounds.

The event’s daytime entertainment from 12 noon to 6pm is completely free. Evening programmes run daily from 8pm to midnight. The Mairtin O Connor Band will be making guest appearances.

Thursday night’s ‘Celtic Welcome’ concert stars Four Men and a Dog, with support from BBC Radio Two Award Winners, Lau. Both bands feature accordionists.

Friday’s ‘From the Highlands to our Ireland’ features the Battlefield Band, from Scotland, Saturday’s ‘Salsa Fiesta’ includes a salsa dance workshop and the hot blooded Cuban sound of Orquesta Caché. Sunday’s ‘Titanic World Ceilidh’ features a unique performance by Flook plus a guest appearance by accordionist Karen Tweed.
