Lelo Nika (1969) is a Serbian and Romanian Romani accordionist who lives in Denmark. He plays a mixture of Balkan, jazz, and especially Romanian music. He originally comes from the multiethnic town of Nikolinci near Belgrade, Serbia, which has a large Romanian population. He moved with his family to Helsingør, Denmark in 1970 and for 3 years, starting in 1979 he studied under Serbian accordionist Branimir Djokic. Lelo Nika went on to win international competitions including 1st equal at the 1996 Coupe Mondiale Virtuoso Entertainment category after which he pursued a career as a highly regarded accordion professional. |
