2009 Shanghai Spring National Accordion Competition – Chinaby Harley Jones |
 The 2009 National Accordion Competition, 1st to 3rd May, has some 400 entrants in various categories. In a major change from the past, about 70% of these entries are for entertainment categories. This competition is the first entertainment competition in China!This competition is also an important event in preparation for 64th Coupe Mondiale at 2011 in Shanghai. Professor Li Cong, Competition Organiser reports, that “I have been promoting multiple development of Chinese accordion since 2006. At that time, there was almost no entertainment accordion performance in China. After a great deal of effort, the situation now seems to be very different. Many young accordion students, including students in the Conservatories, are now interested in popular accordion performance and have started to learn it." During this competition, Shanghai students will hold a entertainment accordion concert. Professor Li Cong says that “a budget of nearly 100,000 RMB has been used for a director especially hired for stage design, plus excellent light and sound equipment will be used. I believe its going to be a very special and interesting concert.” This Concert has been dedicated in celebration of World Accordion Day.
