Foster & Allen Celebrate 40 Years, Mullingar – Republic of Irelandby Rob Howard |
Video above: Special song celebrating 40 years. Foster & Allen - accordionist Mick Foster and singer/guitarist Tony Allen - began performing together professionally in 1975, and in 1979 they released the single ‘A Bunch of Thyme’ in Ireland, which became their first top-selling No. 1 single in Ireland and the UK. Other hit singles and albums followed, and they have to date achieved album and DVD sales in excess of 22 million worldwide. Foster & Allen have done more than most to present the accordion to the general public worldwide. Mick Foster was taught to play the accordion by Sr Agnes Murray, a nun of the Mercy Order in Ballymahon, County Longford, and Frankie Gavigan. In 1968 and 1970 Mick Foster won an All Ireland Championship at the Fleadh Cheoil. He has often stated that his accordion would probably be the last thing in life he would be prepared to give up. To celebrate 40 years together the duo have this year toured South Africa and New Zealand, and are about to begin a UK tour. Tour dates are all on the poster. They have also released a new CD, appropriately titled ‘Celebration’. |
