  Donald Balestrieri, ein bekannter Musikredakteur und Verleger, Akkordeonist und ehemaliges Fakultätsmitglied der San Diego State University in Kalifornien, ist verstorben.Donald Balestrieri, Leiter von Music Graphics Press (früher Ars Nova), hat in den letzten 60 Jahren viele Anthony Galla-Rini-Akkordeonarrangements veröffentlicht und außerdem einen Akkordeonkurs von Donald Balestrieri sowie umfangreiche Musik für Akkordeon arrangiert von Donald Balestrieri herausgegeben. Donald Balestrieri war seit einiger Zeit gesundheitlich angeschlagen und wurde 87 Jahre alt. Wir werden diese Nachricht mit weiteren Informationen ergänzen, sobald wir sie erhalten. |

| Das "Reedblocks VI Thessaloniki Accordion Festival" wird vom 22. bis 24. September 2023 in Thessaloniki, Griechenland, stattfinden. Ziel des Festivals, das Konzerte, Workshops, Seminare und eine Ausstellung umfasst, ist es, "der breiten Öffentlichkeit, Studenten und professionellen Musikern in Thessaloniki und Griechenland die Vielseitigkeit des Instruments und zeitgenössische Trends in Bezug auf seine Rolle in der Musikausbildung und im künstlerischen Schaffen zu präsentieren". | Das Midland Accordion Festival 2023 findet vom 10. bis 12. November 2023 im Mercure Birmingham West Hotel in West Bromwich, England, UK statt. Zu den Gastkünstlern gehören David Vernon, Leonard Brown, The Northern Lassies und Julie Best & Jean Corrigan. Im Vorprogramm spielen Helen Rich, Jovan Rnjak, Harry Hussey, Rosemary Wright, Nigel Pasby & Helen Newton, Anne & Stewart Towe und Angie & Andrew Lukins. Es wird auch einen Überraschungsgast geben. Zu den Festival-Workshops gehören Vintage (Jean Hanger), Scottish (Angie Lukins), Elementary (Sue Bennett) und Intermediate Orchestras (Nigel Pasby). Außerdem wird es eine Fachausstellung geben, die das ergänzt, was der verstorbene große Malcolm Gee einmal als "totalen Akkordeongenuss" bezeichnet hat.  Erst gestern berichteten die lokalen Zeitungen:CASTELFIDARDO: Viele Menschen sahen gestern vier Hubschrauber über Ancona fliegen. Sie waren auf dem Weg zu einem Restaurant. Die Gäste des Restaurants "La Fisarmonica" in Castelfidardo kamen mit den vier Hubschraubern an. Es waren Franzosen, die aus Korsika anreisten. Sie hatten per App gebucht, um das OK für die ungewöhnlichen Landungen gebeten und es auch erhalten: alles ging gut, Manöver wie aus dem Lehrbuch. Gnocchi und Schnitzel für alle, dann wieder in die Luft, Ziel Kroatien. Beim jüngsten Kongress der Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) und der Coupe Mondiale in Bosnien-Herzogowina war Ruben Cittadini von Castelfidardo Pro Loco zugegen und sprach eine Einladung für die Coupe Mondiale 2024 aus, die in der historischen Akkordeonstadt Castelfidardo, Italien, stattfinden soll. Der Kongress nahm die Einladung mit Beifall an. Die Termine stehen noch nicht fest, aber es wird erwartet, dass die Termine des Coupe Mondiale 2024 und des PIF-Castelfidardo 2024 sehr nahe beieinander liegen, um Wettbewerber, Lehrer, Akkordeon-Enthusiasten und Unterstützer zu ermutigen, beide Veranstaltungen zu besuchen. Ich kann mir nicht vorstellen, dass viele Akkordeonisten mit dem Hubschrauber anreisen werden, aber ich kann mir vorstellen, dass viele Akkordeonliebhaber im Jahr 2024 das Restaurant Osteria La Fisarmonica sowie andere gute Restaurants in der Nähe besuchen wollen! Wir sehen uns dort! |

| The DALV (Deutscher Akkordeonlehrer-Verband e. V. - German Accordion Teachers Association) will hold an accordion symposium on the occasion of their 70th anniversary at the Musikschule in der Schirn, Römerberg, Frankfurt am Main, from November 3rd to 5th, 2023. The Symposium 2023 is supported by the "Knowledge Transfer" funding program of the Bundesmusikverband Chor & Orchester e.V. (BMCO). Accordionists, accordion teachers and students will come together in Frankfurt am Main, where closer networking of colleagues from rural areas is also to be created. The symposium is designed as a platform for mutual exchange, in four lectures, open sessions and workshops. The event will also feature a concert on November 4th, which will include the world premieres of DALV composition commissions. This will be held in the neighbouring Old St. Nicholas Church in Frankfurt with world premieres of works by Iris ter Shiphorst, Snežana Nešic and Christian Billian, courtesy of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. | The Black Pencil Prize 2023 is awarded to a new composition written for Black Pencil: recorder, panflute, viola, accordion, percussion (all five instruments of the ensemble). The piece may also contain harpsichord, (live) electronics, video and/or theatrical elements. There is no age limit and no application fee. The competition is open to composers of all nationalities. The duration of the composition is a minimum of four and a maximum of eight minutes. The jury will choose three to five works that will be performed during the Prix Annelie de Man, from November 29th to December 3rd, 2023 in the Orgelpark Amsterdam, from which the winning composition will be selected. The winner’s prize includes a professional studio recording of the winning composition, performance of the piece during a selection of Black Pencil concerts and prizemoney of EUR. 2,000 Black Pencil includes Artistic Director, Jorge Isaac – recorder (blockflute), Marko Kassl (accordion), Matthijs Koene (panflute), Esra Pehlivanli (viola) and Enric Monfort (percussion). Duo Paier – Dohrmann (Klaus Paier on accordion & bandoneon and Florian Dohrmann on double bass) will tour Austria in October 2023. The two virtuosos find their themes in standards by Ellington and Mingus as well as in their own compositions and improvisations. | Accordionists Eduard Akhanov and Sergey Osokin will perform a "World Hits" Concert at the State Memorial Museum. A. N. Scriabin in Moscow, Russia on October 7th at 7pm. Eduard Akhanov is a winner of awards at prestigious international competitions in Russia, Germany, Croatia and Scotland. In his work, he is not afraid to experiment in the field of sound transmission, opening up new possibilities for the button accordion. Sergey Osokin is a Russian accordionist who has received recognition in many countries around the world and is a laureate of more than twenty international competitions. He combines academic art, jazz and musette in his work. Their program will include world hits such as “Libertango” (Astor Piazzolla), “Czardas” (Vittorio Monti), “Under Paris Skies” (Hubert Giraud), Englishman in New York (Sting) and many more. | Stefan Hussong will hold a Masterclass for advanced young accordionists, young students and undergraduates at the Rubinstein-Saal, in Munich, Germany on October 14th and 15th, 2023. The course will cover a selection of works from all eras, deepening the repertoire prepared for the masterclass in conjunction with preparing for competitions, exams, concerts, etc. Stefan Hussong is professor of accordion and chamber music at the Musikhochschule Würzburg and has been a lecturer at the International Summer Academies of the Mozarteum Salzburg since 1993. The Aotango quintet which features World Champion accordionist Grayson Masefield, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (APO) Concertmaster Andrew Beer, NZTrio pianist Somi Kim, APO Principal Bass Gordon Hill and Jazz guitarist Sam Swindells will perform a series of concerts in the North Island of New Zealand during October 2023. The concerts are entitled “A Century of Tango” and will begin at the Dargaville Methodist Church in Dargaville on October 2nd, 2023. Further concerts will be held in Tauranga on October 4th, Taupo on October 5th and in Rotorua on October 6th. The concerts are a musical journey through the evolution of tango, showcasing popular favourites such as El Choclo, Por una Cabeza and La Cumparsita, to the revolutionary nuevo tango style works of Argentinian composer Ástor Piazzolla.
