New Book: The Foster & Allen Story – Republic of Irelandby Rob Howard |
Video: 'After All These Years' filmed in 1995, is the song which the book is named after. Over 480,000 views on youtube to date. Foster & Allen began as an act in 1975 when singer/guitarist Tony Allen and accordionist Mick Foster joined forces, and found they had a winning formula with their songs and tunes. The duo has now released 'After All These Years – Our Story', their first ever autobiography, through Virgin Books, Random House Group, available via Amazon. ‘After All These Years’ is the combined life story of Mick Foster and Tony Allen, revealing how two unassuming Irishmen found themselves touring the world and making it into the record books. Full of nostalgic detail about growing up in rural Ireland in the 1950s and 60s, the book relives the days of horse-drawn ploughs, tiny village schools, thatched roofs and candlelit cottages - not to mention the craic of the ceilidh dances and fleadhs that influenced the young Mick and Tony. The book spans the breadth of their long career together which began in 1975, and includes their unlikely appearance on BBC TV’s ‘Top of the Pops’ alongside Bob Geldof; being feted by Terry Wogan; and the extraordinary moment when they found themselves at the very top of the charts, beating Take That to the number-one slot. Tony Allen began his musical career as an accordionist, joining the Kieran Kelly Ceili Band, replacing Brendan Shine. He eventually switched to singing and playing the guitar. Mick Foster was an All-Ireland Champion is the 1960s, and has stated that that his accordion would be the last thing in life he would be prepared to give up. Foster & Allen’s discography is large, with over 40 albums, 17 videos, and 6 DVDs.
