What Are You Doing For World Accordion Day? - International

World Accordion Day
World Accordion Day logoWhat are you doing for World Accordion Day to promote the accordion in your country? World Accordion day is on May 6th, which is the day the accordion was patented in 1829.

World Accordion Day was started in 2009 by the CIA and has been very successful, generating a lot of positive publicity for the accordion. A key part of this event is the World Accordion Day website.

Every association, group, orchestra, performer and teacher, is asked to actively support this event by encouraging national and local accordion activities to happen in their country on this day or the weekend either side of Accordion Day if that should be more convenient.

Everyone can register their World Accordion Day activity on the website and send a report of their event after, for that website.

No event is too big or too small. ALL accordion events celebrating World Accordion Day are welcome. This is a CIA promotion for the accordion in which every accordion enthusiast can participate and help bring our accordion world together as well as strongly promote the accordion.

WellMed Network Dr. David Champion and Flaco Jimenez - USA

Flaco Jimenez and Dr. Champion
Conjunto legend Flaco Jimenez is nearing his 77th birthday. While his calendar is still full — packed with fan appearances, award shows, charity benefits, music festivals and interviews — his accordion doesn’t get played as much these days.

After back surgery, a fall that resulted in a broken hip, and a subsequent fall that broke multiple ribs, Flaco is under doctor’s orders to “take it easy” and “slow down.” That means slowing down on performing and touring, and focusing on recovery.

Flaco Jiminez career with the renowned groups the Texas Tornados and Los Super Seven includes five Grammy Awards, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Grammys, a National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, multiple Tejano Music Awards, 13 albums and thousands of sold-out shows.

His latest non-musical endeavor is sharing his healthcare journey as a paid spokesman for WellMed. Flaco is a patient in the WellMed Network with Dr. David Champion as his primary care provider. WellMed is a 25-year-old healthcare company, best known for its WellMed primary care clinics in Texas and Florida.

Flaco signed a waiver regarding patient confidentiality in agreeing to have Dr. Champion share his healthcare story and together they are working to promote WellMed.

Valentino è Tango by Renzo Ruggieri Now Released as eTracks Album - Italy

Valentino è Tango CD CoverRenzo Ruggieri has released Valentino è Tango as an eTracks (mp3) album. Only €9.00 Catalog: rruggieri11

Previously, Valentino è Tango was available in CD format and now the album is available as a eTracks (mp3) internet download from: rruggieri11

Renzo writes:
"It's not jazz, tango and not even a play with music. In opera singing, drama/text steal the limelight from the music, hence the need to create a formula that would put the music in the foreground without losing the pathos of the story. The formula adopted is "Jazz Concert with a text comment,".

14 Years Ago: Accordion Addict – Australia, January 2002

Cathie TraversThe Accordions Worldwide News for January 25th 2002 included an item about Cathie Travers, a pianist turned accordionist whose enthusiasm for our favorite instrument knows no bounds. Since 2002 Cathie Travers’ innovative work on the accordion has continued unabated, with videos, recordings, concerts and international travel.

The article of 2002 was written by well known accordionist/composer Peter Piccini who sadly passed away in 2011. Obituary at: http://www.accordions.com/news.aspx?d=14-Oct-2011&lang=en#art4857

Accordion Addict – Australia
Contributed by Peter Piccini

Cathie Travers has become an "accordion addict" from the West Coast of Australia. After 25 years in the business as a pianist and electronics specialist Cathie has taken to exploring the fertile land of the accordion. Her music draws from a stylistically broad spectrum including modernist art music as well as world music traditions, avant-rock, nuevo tango and German 1930's cabaret.

Cathie is currently working on a new CD, ‘Avant-Grass’ (due for release in March), which will include a variety of other keyboard instruments and electronic soundscapes. Cathie is also in the studio finishing a film sound track that features a quirky kitchen - tango for accordion and (occasional) steam kettle!
