‘14 Years Ago’ – The Faroe Islands welcomes Icelandic accordionists in 1999

Faroe IslandsThe Accordions Worldwide news for the week ending June 18th 1999 reported that members of the Reykjavik Accordion Club in Iceland had recently been playing a venues on the Faroe Islands. For those of us who live in cities in larger countries, it is easy not to realise that there are many far flung islands around the world where the accordion is played and appreciated. This report of a trip to the Faroe Islands is a reminder of such places.

The Reykjavik Accordion Club (Iceland) has just returned from a 6 day trip to the Faroe Islands, where they received a terrific welcome from the Faroe Islands Accordion Association. The Faroe Islands are situated in the North Atlantic Ocean, 430 km south-east of Iceland. The visitors performed at daily concerts and dances and made many friends on these small Islands.
