  The 15th Musical Advent Calendar Festival will be held in 23 districts throughout Vienna, Austria from December 1st to 23rd, 2023, organised by Friedl Preisl.The event offers the opportunity to reflect on the cultural diversity of Vienna, leading up to the Christmas season. Lithuanian accordionist Martynas Levickis received the 2023 Opus Klassik Instrumentalist of the Year Award earlier this month. The awards ceremony was held at the prestigious Berlin Concert Hall in Germany. Martynas said, “This award is a great honor and confirmation that I am on the right track.” He thanked “everyone who contributed to his latest album "Autograph", especially – music producers Vilis and Aleksandra Kerams for the fantastic sound of the recording, as well as the members of "Mikroorkéstra", for their arrangements of folk songs that sounded so special.” Lithuanian National Radio and Television (LRT) reported that Martynas was also given the honor of performing a musical collage from the Lithuanian folk works "Beauštanti aušrele" and "Ruta žalioj" together with the Berlin "Konzerthausorchester", conducted by Joana Mallwitz, at the awards. Once again, the accordion player appeared in the finale of the ceremony and, together with other performers, played collages of George Gershwin's works "Blue Rhapsody" and "I got Rhythm". |

 The 2024 Finnish Accordion Association Cruise will be held on March 23rd and 24th, 2024, sailing on the Baltic Princess ship.This cruise ship, with about 2,200 accordionists, will depart from Turku, Finland on March 23rd, 2024 at 6.30pm. It will travel to Kapellskär, Sweden and return to Turku on March 24th at 4.30pm The Baltic Princess is “reserved entirely for accordionists and is like a ringing paradise for almost a day.” “The music plays from evening to morning and from morning to evening in the venues and spontaneously in the corridors of the ship by accordionists both professionals and amateurs”. 74th Perth All-Scotland Accordion & Fiddle Festival - Scotlandby AWW |

| The 74th Perth All-Scotland Accordion & Fiddle Festival will take place in Perth, Scotland on October 27th and 28th, 2023, incorporating the Scottish Accordion Championships. The event will begin with a Friday night Welcome Ceilidh Dance on October 27th, from 8pm to 11.30pm at the Moncrieffe Suite, Salutation Hotel in Perth. Performers feature the Gordon Shand Scottish Dance Band, The Shands (picture below) and The Lomond Ceilidh Band. On October 28th, the competitions will be held at the Salutation Hotel and St. Matthews Church in Perth from 9am. Accordion adjudicators are: John Carmichael, Kevin Clark, Jim Lindsay and Neil Copland. Informal Music will be provided at the Perth Salutation Bar from 1.30pm to 4pm, led by the Lomond Ceilidh Band. | Bookings are open for the 2023 Super Accordion Orchestra Day, which will be held at the Cobham Village Hall in Surrey, England, UK on October 29th, 2023, hosted by the Guildford Accordion Club. The event is a “fantastic day of accordion music for multiple players. Come along and bring your friends who play the accordion.” An exciting program of music is planned. A beginners and children’s section will be held in the rear hall with the opportunity to borrow an accordion to play on the day. This must be pre- booked. The day will end with a concert featuring the Super Orchestra, Tillingbourne Accordion Orchestra, Watford Accordion Band and the London Accordion Players. See poster for details. |

 Video: The accordion Orchestra "China in the Lights" is a brand new composition arranged by Tan Jialiang, a young accordion artist commissioned by Crystal Wang (Congyu Wang) of Shanghai Normal University Accordion Orchestra, specially for the Shanghai Normal University Accordion Orchestra. Conductor Crystal Wang is an Executive Secretary of the CIA member China Accordion Association (CAA) and she is a member of the CIA Music Committee. View pictures of the concert: 2023WAD-China This work was part of a special "Love for the City" concert presented in Shanghai showcasing Chinese Shanghai style accordion works, guided by the concept of Shanghai style culture, exploring the source and essence of Shanghai style accordion art. The concert showcased the characteristics of Shanghai style music performing with multiple unique Shanghai style accordion works. The musical skills and excellent interpretation ability of members of the Shanghai Normal University Accordion Orchestra, and the fusion of multiple art forms, highlighted multiple aspects of accordion art. The Astana Times Kazakhstan reporter, Aibarshyn Akhmetkali, featured an item on Kazakh accordion 2021 Coupe Mondiale winner, Olzhas Nurlanov this month as follows: “Kazakh accordionist Olzhas Nurlanov mesmerized the European audience with his profound performances during his September concerts in Bosnia and Herzegovina (a the 2023 Coupe Mondiale), Serbia and Germany, reported NF media. Nurlanov holds the 2021 world champion title among accordionists as the winner of the 74th Coupe Mondiale international competition. Nurlanov was invited to Bosnia and Herzegovina for a solo concert in Bijeljina and to perform with the President of the International Association of Accordionists Mirco Patarini and former Coupe Mondiale winners in Ugljevik, Kirill Rusinov, Alexander Selivanov and Grayson Masefield. Nurlanov’s remarkable artistry and technical prowess have enabled him to broaden the accordion’s repertoire, incorporating Kazakh traditional music such as Kurmangazy’s “Adai” and Nagim Mendygaliev’s “Poem-Legend of Dombra.” His program also featured classical pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach, Domenico Scarlatti, Modest Mussorgsky, Camille Saint-Saëns, and Robert Schumann. He also performed works by Vladislav Zolotaryov and Alexander Kholminov, both of whom composed original music for the accordion. Nurlanov’s skills also impressed Milan Tomic, a famous musician and the organizer of the annual accordion festival in Kragujevac, Serbia, who invited him to perform three concerts in the Serbian cities of Kragujevac, Valjevo, and Kraljevo. After Serbia, Nurlanov traveled to Italy to participate in one of the most prestigious international competitions for accordionists, the 48th edition of the PIF 2023Castelfidardo. This year, 20 finalists from around the world performed live for the judges, including two solo performances and one with an orchestra. Nurlanov won the second prize. While in Italy, Nurlanov was invited to the famed Beltuna factory and he concluded his tour with solo concerts in the German cities of Heppenheim and Langenzenn. “In 2024, Nurlanov plans to tour several countries, including Switzerland, Germany and Serbia. Additionally, he is in discussions for a potential tour in China.” |

| The Aotango Quintet began their four-concert tour of the North Island of New Zealand with a performance at the Dargaville Methodist Church on October 2nd, 2023. The concert delighted the audience and finished with several encores and a standing ovation.   The Accordionists & Teachers Guild, International (ATG) is very proud to commission a documentary memorializing the work of Dr. Helmi Harrington, a scholar and expert in all things accordion, curator since inception, at The World of Accordions Museum in Superior, Wisconsin, USA. The film will highlight the collection of accordions at the museum as well as tell the story of the history and development of the accordion through the years. The production team is from Chicago - Mobula Productions and Nikola Stojkovic (a student at Chicagoland Accordion Academy and a writer and film producer) is directing the action! Filming at the museum began on September 30th, 2023! Watch for the release of the final product in the coming months.
