Belfast Military Tattoo, Northern Ireland - UKby Rob Howard |
The first ever Belfast Military Tattoo, held at the Odyssey Arena on September 27th and 28th, was a resounding success, with 11,000 sell out attendances on both nights. There were seven pipe bands, two flute bands, two brass bands, two teams of dancers, and two accordion bands – all from Northern Ireland - participating in this large scale spectacular event. The Dunloy and Vow accordion bands, both contest championship winners in recent years, joined forces to form a band of about 50 accordionists – featuring a mixture of piano accordions, chromatic accordions, British chromatic and diatonic accordions – plus a drums and percussion section, all resplendent in uniforms. All the playing was done standing up and on the march, creating a stirring sound and impression as they played. The Belfast Military Tattoo is set to become an annual event.
