‘14 Years Ago’ – Jazz Accordion Course introduced at Pescara, Italy, in 1999by Rob Howard |
The Accordions Worldwide news for the week ending October 15th 1999 included a report from Italy about the first time inclusion of jazz accordion, under the tutelage of Renzo Ruggieri, at the Pescara Music Academy. Since 1999 jazz accordion tuition at academy level in Italy has become accepted as part of the musical establishment. First Jazz Accordion Course – Italy After publishing the first "new-generation" jazz accordion method (Bèrben n.4190) and the first "total improvisation" CD ("Improvvisazioni Guidate" - Voglia d'Arte R1000-001), jazz musician Renzo Ruggieri was appointed lecturer of the first jazz accordion course (including modern/MIDI accordion) at the Pescara Music Academy. This is an important new project not only for the organizing institution, but also for its meticulous five-level structure (the course is open to absolute beginners) and the widely recognized diploma awarded to successful students. Ruggieri's students include Osvaldo Guarnieri, recent winner of the Castelfidardo competition both in the "Jazz: Soloists" and "Jazz - Groups" sections. |
