Young accordionist Igor Zobin performed with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI Torino during the International Festival of Contemporary Music ‘Music Biennial 2009’, on September 28th. The historic Venetian world-class festival which has hosted in the past the greatest musicians of the 20th Century, premiered ‘Lieder von der Liebe zur Erde’, by the great contemporary composer Fabio Nieder. The piece, written for solo soprano and two orchestras, was enriched by the presence of the accordion, its sound merging with the large orchestra consisting of a hundred instruments. The concert was performed in honour of the Hungarian composer Gyorgy Kurtag, one of the most important music personalities of recent times, who was awarded with the Golden Lion for Career Achievement. There was a standing ovation for Zoltan Pesko, one of the most important conductors of the 20th Century, who has to his credit a major implementation of premières of the last hundred years.
