Oleg Sharov at Glusburn Institute, Yorkshire - UKby Graham Waterhouse |
On Tuesday October 13th 2009 over a hundred people were treated to an exhibition of the highest quality of musicianship at the Glusburn Institute in North Yorkshire. Oleg Sharov, Senior Professor of Music at the Rimsky Korsakov Conservatory of Music, St Petersburg, was guest artiste at a concert hosted by the Craven Accordion Orchestra. Oleg's repertoire consisted of classic numbers like Bach’s ‘Toccata in D Minor’ and ‘Largo al Factotum’, from the ‘Barber of Seville’, through to jazz standards like ‘Take the A Train’. He also used the occasion to introduce the audience to newer accordion works. This was complemented by some wonderful arrangements of Russian folk songs. The evening came to a close with an exquisite performance of Astor Piazolla’s ‘Oblivion’. The comments of accordionists and non accordionists alike were unanimous in their enjoyment of the evening. |
