Organized annually by ‘Haupoz’ - Euskal Herriko Akordeoi Elkartea (Basque Association of Accordion Players) the event ran for 4 days, from December 3rd to 6th, with 350 accordionists participating from 12 countries at the stage of the Ikastola Arizmendi, Culture and Theatre House Amaya. Some 16 contestants in the first round were reduced to 9 finalists. The jury, which included Friedrich Lips (Russia), Janne Ratty (Finland), Draugsvoll Geir (Norway), Vojin Vasovic (Serbia), and Jose Antonio Donostia Hontoria (Spain), decided: Trophy ‘Arrasate Dragon’ First Prize: Iosif Purits (Russia - picture right) Second Prize: Harri Kuusijärvi (Finland) Third Prize ex aequo: Live Berger Brekke (Denmark) Third Prize ex aequo: Alexey Nefedov (Russia) Other results were: Senior Category First Prize: Olga Morral Bisbal (Catalonia) Second Prize: Norbert Magin Trancón Prieto (Asturias) Third Prize: Maria Mercedes Martinez Lax (Murcia) Junior Category First Prize: Lore Amenabar Larrañaga (Gipuzkoa) Second Prize: Matthew Nestor Gascue (Alava) Third Prize: Maria Mogas Gensana (Catalonia) Children's Category First Prize: Sara Otaegi Ugartemendia (Gipuzkoa) Diploma Second Prize: Sofía González Ros (Cantabria) Diploma Third prize: Ariane Gaztañaga Iturralde (Gipuzkoa) Diploma The large number of people who attended the final show was able to enjoy performances by the winners of each category. |
