Accordionist Gjovalin Nonaj performs a recital on September 23rd, 3pm, at the Centre Européen de Médiation (asbl), 119 rue de l’Hôtel des monnaies, 1060 Brussels. Gjovalin Nonaj was born in Lezhe, Albania, in 1968, and comes from a family of singers and traditional musicians. He took his first steps as a musician at the age of 5 years on the çifteli (lute with 2 chords). Later, he studied clarinet, horn and accordion. Now resident in Belgium, he has dual Belgian/Albanian nationality, and has studied accordion at the conservatories of Tirana and Brussels. His music and his singing are rooted in the Balkan traditions, though he also has a large repertoire of popular and classical music. He performs as a solo artist and with other musicians, such as the ‘Lule bore Quartet’. He has made several CDs and tours often with groups or solo through Europe, the Balkans, and Africa.
