The 20th Northern Ireland Open Accordion Championships are being held in the Loughshore Hotel, Carrickfergus, on Saturday February 25th 2017 running from 9am until 5pm, with the Prize Presentation taking place that night in the hotel at a Gala Dance. The 19th Championships held earlier this year attracted a record 245 entries and in 2017, competitors from England, Scotland, and the Irish Republic, as well as a strong local entry are expected. Competitions cater for all types of accordion music with Solo, Duet, Group, Orchestral and Marching Band Sections suitable for all ages and grades with classical and continental to traditional styles. The 20th event promises to be a musical feast with three halls in use all day. The Championships are run under the rules of the National Accordion Organisation of the United Kingdom (NAO) and are a qualifying event for the 2017 UK Championships being held in Liverpool, 21-23 April. Any UK resident who competes in an NAO Section at these competitions will have qualified to compete in the relevant section of the NAO UK Championships.
