‘Crossing the border: Accordion Music from Berlin’ – Germanyby Rob Howard |
Twenty years after the fall of the Wall, the accordion orchestra Euphonia will be presenting the work of composers from East and West Berlin in two concerts. The 25 players in the orchestra will play music which tells of freedom and living without borders. This unusual program presents, along with workers’ songs by Hanns Eisler, contemporary – even avant-garde, spherical – music by the Berlin accordion Professor Jürgen Ganzer, and the première of a commissioned work by the jazz pianist Hannes Zerbe. These concerts will also feature the Swiss orchestra ‘Union Accordéoniste Mixte de Genève’, MD Pierre Krummenacher, and the youth orchestra ‘Akkorde.on Fire’, MD Sonja Merz. The concerts take place as follows: November 21st, 6 pm - Kant-Gymnasium, Berlin-Spandau, Bismarckstr. 54; admission free, donations gratefully accepted November 22nd, 6 pm - The Bürgersaal, Berlin-Zehlendorf, Teltower Damm 18; admission - 7 euros, reduced 4,50 euros, tickets available at the evening box office opening 5 pm For further information email: mail@euphonia-berlin.de |
