Leading Canadian accordion teacher, performer, conductor, composer, arranger, Joe Morelli died on March 4th. Joe Morelli (1929-2009) was taught by Alf Carson, and became the first Canadian accordionist to play with a symphony orchestra. In 1997 Joe Morelli wrote ‘Target: Focus’, a unique and popular book that not only dealt with the practical matters of accordion playing, but also discussed at length the philosophy and psychology of music making. In recent years Joe Morelli taught regularly at accordion camps such as the annual event in Oregon, USA, where his ability to take any random assortment of accordionists and quickly turn them into an ensemble was legendary. He was highly regarded by all who knew him. |
